Alwa y s FREE! ptember Paul Winer's Cartoon Native American Days planned in Parker ����� | S������ RAIN G�����-B��� 2016 SEE POW WOW PAGE 9 The 46th Annual Colorado River Indian Tribes' (CRIT) Native Ameri- can Days runs from Sept. 27 thru Oct. 6, 2018. Highlights include a parade in downtown Parker Sat. Oct. 6th at 10am, an Exhibition, Fair and Pow Wow Oct. 5th & 6th at Manataba Park.The theme this year is "Spirit of Volunteerism." The event is dedicated to Ingrid Stanley. Many events are planned for Native American Days. While most of these will take place at Manataba Park, there will be events all around Parker. The Native Film Festival at BlueWater Cinemas will be held Sept. 27 - 29. Also Saturday Sept. 29th is the Fry Bread Contest also at Blue- Water Cinemas at 10am. Wednesday, October 3rd, the Miss Colorado River Indian Tribes Pag- eant begins at 7 p.m. on the Manataba Park stage, with the crowning taking place Thursday night. Miss CRIT for 2016-17, Bailey Martin will be turning her crown over to her successor. The La Paz County Youth Pageants will be held at 7 p.m. Friday on the Manataba Park stage. There's no admission charge for the Opening Day of the CRIT Expo, which will be Thursday, Oct. 4. The Exhibit Hall opens Thursday 3pm and stays open until 9pm. The Midway opens at 3pm with Grand Opening Cer- emony at 5pm. The Native Americans Days Pa- rade through downtown Parker will be held starting at 10 a.m., Sat- urday, Oct. 6. The parade will use the Tim Edwards Parade Route, starting at 18th Street and Joshua Avenue, moving along Joshua Av- enue, turning left on 12th Street, and ending near the Parker Com- munity/Senior Center. A bird singing and dance con- test will be held Friday, Oct. 5 at Manataba Park and Tug-O-War Contest. IPAWS National Test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) FEMA to test wireless alert system Oct. 3 The National EAS and WEA test has been postponed to the backup date of October 3, 2018, begin- ning at 2:18 p.m. EDT. The Federal Emergency Manage- ment Agency (FEMA), in coordi- nation with the Federal Commu- nications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on the backup date of October 3, 2018 due to ongoing response ef- forts to Hurricane Florence. The WEA portion of the test commenc- es at 2:18 p.m. EDT, and the EAS portion follows at 2:20 p.m. EDT. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether improve- ments are needed. The WEA test message will be sent to cell phones that are connected to wireless providers participat- ing in WEA. This is the fourth EAS nationwide test and the fi rst national WEA test.
