SEPTEMBER 12-18, 2018 UCW 29 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Unusual hobby Social media have given us the dubi- ous opportunity to document all man- ner of celebratory, mournful, hilarious and contemplative events. And so they have opened the door to fame for "Paul Flart" (real name: Doug), a 31-year-old hospital security guard who took to Instagram in March to share with the world his "sphincter sirens." Flart spent a lot of time sitting around at the front desk with nothing to do, but, he noticed, "e lobby has really great acoustics, and naturally, we all fart. One day, I ripped a rather nice one and got really good sound from it, so the next time it happened, I record- ed it and sent it to my group chat." ose lucky friends encouraged him to go viral and helped him choose his Insta handle, Paul Flart. Today, he's racked up more than 20,000 followers, according to Vice. Unfortunately, hospital manage- ment isn't among them, and on Aug. 23, Flart was fired from his job. But he's not deflated; he plans to expand his reach: "We can do Paul Flart on va- cation, you know, throw in like a Ha- waiian shirt and a hat ... and then just fart around Florida." [Vice, 8/23/2018] Florida. Says it all On Aug. 20, the Miami Herald en- dorsed Republican Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera, who was running to replace Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen to represent a district that includes parts of Miami and Miami Beach. (She lost her pri- mary bid on Aug. 28.) Rodriguez Aguilera has been a city official and a business executive, the Herald noted, but conceded, "We realize that Rodriguez Aguilera is an unusual candidate." Before she was a candidate, Rodri- guez Aguilera appeared on Spanish- language television programs to talk about her experience of being abduct- ed by aliens when she was 7 years old. ree beings, two women and a man who reminded her of Jesus Christ, spoke to her "telepathically" and took her aboard their spaceship. Inside, she saw "round seats that were there, and some quartz rocks that controlled the ship," and she said she has com- municated with them several times since then. However, editorial page editor Nancy Ancrum didn't think Rodriguez Aguilera's beliefs or past experiences compromised her as an effective public servant. "Here's why we chose her: She's not crazy," Ancrum told e Washington Post. "I don't think we went off the rails here." [e Washing- ton Post, 8/20/2018] ARIES - Mar 21/Apr 20 Aries, you may want to be everywhere at once when the social invitations arrive. But this week you will have to pick your RSVPs care- fully. Question: e whole cast of NBC's "Trial & Error" is great in this hilarious show. Will it return in the fall? – Eleanor Matt Roush: Fall? No. Ever? Hard to say. For both of its seasons, NBC used T&E as a midseason – or, this year, summer – replacement, in each case doubling up on episodes each week as if to acknowledge that watching multiple episodes, binge-style, makes this serialized true-crime spoof even funnier. At present, the show appears to be in limbo, with NBC reportedly having let its option for renewal lapse, and the studio is now shopping it around. I'd love to see more, espe- cially if they keep finding defendants as memorable as John Lithgow and Kristin Chenoweth. Question: Gerald McRaney seems to show up on at least one series per season! He was on "Shooter" this sum- mer, and I see he will be on "NCIS: LA" this fall. Can you explain how it is he shows up all the time? – BJ Matt Roush: Gerald McRaney has the enviable fortune of being an in-de- mand character actor, probably now more than ever since his 2017 Emmy win for his guest role as Dr. K on "is is Us." He's versatile, he's effective whether playing a good or bad guy, and he's a comfortably familiar face for millions of viewers. at's why so many shows want to work with him. by Damian Holbrook Jeers to "e Conners" for repeating a fatal mistake. In a recent interview, "Roseanne" survivor John Goodman hinted that the aborted reboot's spinoff may kill off Roseanne Barr's character to explain her absence. Because that move worked so well for "Kevin Can Wait?" Cheers to "e Late Late Show" for being a Grande ol' time. anks to double shots of guest Ariana Grande during the week of August 13 – for a musical "Titanic" spoof, then a "Car- pool Karaoke" – host James Corden gave the tiny belter a chance to remind viewers that she is as funny as her vo- cals are fierce.
