Dagger Diges FALL 2018 • KAPPA DELTA SORORITY • SIGMA EPSILON CHAPTER • UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS Thirty-eight Sigma Epsilon KDs moved into the house in August and the entire chapter is ready to rock another year of recruitment, academics, community service, sisterhood, and fun at 2315 Nueces. We are so happy to have Karen Herleman returning for another year as our house director. Under her direction this summer the house has undergone some improvements along with the usual maintenance, cleaning, and painting. We replaced the bedroom windows on the 24th Street side of the house to provide some insulation against the noise from the busy street and to improve efficiency. We converted our internet service over to fiber to keep up with the increasing demands of our large chapter. A new air conditioner was installed for the Sue Johnson Ernest Study Room and maintenance on the main HVAC system was performed. One of the four-girl rooms (aka Quad Pods) was converted to a multiuse common space, fulfilling one of the ongoing needs of the chapter for more study and meeting space. All bedrooms were painted this summer and the floor in Nelson Hall (back entry hall) also received a fresh coat of paint. Some changes were made to the landscaping in the front of the house to better accommodate the sunny and shady areas. I hope you will stop by our beautiful house sometime soon for a visit and tour! I want to let you know about some of the great things that happened in spring 2018. Our collegians continued to excel in academics at the flagship university in Texas, ranking in the top half of all UPC sororities on campus, exceeding the all-UPC GPA, the all-university women's GPA, and the all-undergraduate GPA. While maintaining high academic standards, these young women also worked hard to give back to the local community through workshops with Girl Scouts and raised money to support Prevent Child Abuse America and the Austin Center for Child Protection. I was honored to attend the National Collegiate Training Academy (NCTA) in Florida in January with CAB Chairman Meghan Taylor-Steshyn, Florida '07 and three council officers. We were treated to an up-close view of our impressive National Council, made up of women who volunteer their time to lead our sorority while excelling in their chosen professions. NCTA focused on leadership and professional development of our members and gave our officers a chance to learn from other chapter leaders from across the country. The Austin Hill Country Alumnae Chapter welcomed Sigma Epsilon graduating seniors into alumnae life at the last chapter meeting of the year on May 30, 2018. They conducted the Ever Loyal Induction Ceremony where each senior was given a white rose and a certificate. They were encouraged to stay connected to Kappa Delta throughout the next phase of their membership and were reminded: You are a Kappa Delta for life! We could not run a successful chapter without the support of our faithful alumnae and we are committed to improving our communications with our alumnae members. Please log on to texaskappadeltas.com and click on the Sister Search tab to ensure that your contact information is up-to-date. This includes mailing and email addresses! Also, please share our website and this newsletter with your sisters and pledge class members so they can update their information too. This will ensure that they are receiving communication from the House Corporation and undergraduate chapter. There's no requirement to get involved, and there are no required alumnae dues. We just want to stay connected with you and let you know all the good things happening at Sigma Epsilon! AOT & Hook 'em Horns!
