3 DR. SCHAWANG AWARDED INAUGURAL FACULTY EXCELLENCE AWARD T he 20th anniversary celebration marked a stark contrast to the early days when students had milk crates for lockers and Seabury's future was not certain. Today, under Dr. Schawang's leadership, the school is thriving—a notion that was hard for many of us to imagine at some points in the past. As a gesture of gratitude, the Alumni Association presented Dr. Schawang with the first Faculty Excellence Award. This award was born out of our appreciation for Dr. Schawang's role in Seabury's early foundation and in bridging Seabury to the burgeoning school it is today. Dr. Schawang has played many roles in the lives of Seabury's alumni (teacher, director, advisor, and headmaster) and has made a significant impression on all of us, earning him the affectionate nickname "Doctor," which some earlier alumni may be surprised to learn is still used by current students. The Seabury Alumni Association Vice President, and Seabury's first graduate, Brendan Mark '02, said it best: "We love you, Doctor."
