T here Is No Doubt—We Are Marching Along. If you have driven or walked past 1207 West University in the last four weeks, you hopefully noticed a significant change to the Greek neighborhood at Oklahoma State University. The house that resided at 1207 West University since 1940 is no more. The effort of an ever- growing group of Gamma Lambda alumni over the last four years culminated in a decisive event and on May 17, a bulldozer began what 70 years of challenges had failed to do–bring down the Big Red Island. She stood the test of time, but as with the Old Green Barn, the Big Red Island has forever faded into the shadows of history. With the raising of the Big Red Island, there is No Doubt…we are marching along; we are building a new Beta House. A New Big Red Island is coming to the campus of Oklahoma State University. The process has been long and the road has not always been as clear as it is today. As is always the way with these types of things, the process begins with an idea of a what and a how that begins to take root and then grows to take on its own life. In our case, the problem was never the what. Years ago it was clear that a new house at 1207 was desperately needed. The problem was the how. How do you motivate over 1,200 alumni to believe that it can happen; that we can build a new house? The how is the capital campaign that will raise the funds to build a new Beta House at Oklahoma State University. As the song goes, "dreary the man who spurns his comrades." The how continued over four years with an ever-growing group slowly and steadily approaching Gamma Lambda alumni, family and friends to persuade them that we can make a new house happen. Conventional fundraising wisdom says that in a good capital campaign 20 to 25% of fraternity alumni will join a capital campaign. We all know that the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Beta Theta Pi is not and will never be ordinary…we stand out. "Happier he who joins his brothers." While the Big Red Island has been raised, the capital campaign continues to raise funds. To date, we, the Gamma Lambda alumni, have raised approximately $3.47 million in pledges with 20% of our alumni participating. We have already exceeded the pundits' expectations, but with a construction budget of $6.4 million, there is still room to raise money and grow participation. Another sixty donors will raise our participation rate to the upper participation range of a good capital campaign. We, the Gamma Lambda alumni, ask that you join us in this march to a New Beta House at Oklahoma State. If you have pledged, consider an additional pledge. If you have not yet sent in your pledge, complete the enclosed pledge form and mail it in. Help us further exceed expectations. There is no doubt that we are marching along and together we will succeed in building a New Beta House. Over the coming 18 months, we will continue to bring you updates as the New Beta House rises from the ground. _ kai _, Gamma Lambda Alumni of Beta Theta Pi, '23-'18 Transitioning to a New Big Red Island Brothers, We Continue to Need Your Support NEWS Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi at Oklahoma State University / Summer 2018 Think Back.
