ecently, at the annual meeting of the Mu Foundation Trustees it was decided that our proceeds from the
Alpha Sig Fund within the UW Foundation be awarded to the Mu Chapter undergrads who make the Dean's
List (quarterly GPA of 3.50 and above, 12 credits minimum.) At the current corpus balance of approximately
$176,000 we receive about $7,000 per year (4%) to award. We pay 1% per year to the UW Foundation as an annual
fee. Over the past twenty years, the UW Foundation Consolidated Endowment Fund has returned about 8% annu-
ally. We look forward to having our fund grow through investments and additional gifts from alumni and friends.
Our contact at the UW for this fund is Alethia Mead who also attended the Mu Foundation annual meeting to
brief us on our fund and other Greek-related items. At the appropriate time in the future (after our current capital
campaign) the UW will solicit gifts for our fund if we ask them to. Gifts to this fund also result in Tyee points for
the donor.
As you may recall, our Alpha Sig Fund at the UW Foundation was created by a gift of $100,000 from the Mu
Chapter Foundation, matched by $50,000 from the UW Foundation. The assets from the Kevin MacDonald Fund
(approximately $10,000) will also be joined into our main fund and will be represented on the next quarterly
report. Alethia and her colleagues have also reserved another $50,000 match for us should we make an additional
gift of $100,000 within the next couple of years.
The UW fund is separate from the funds held by the Mu Chapter Foundation, as well as separate from the Mu Funds
held within the national Alpha Sigma Phi Foundation.
