Alderman to receive degree at Ashland University ASHLAND, OHIO ��� Catherine Alderman of Cottonwood will receive a Master of American History and Government degree from Ashland University at the Winter Commencement ceremony on Dec. 15. Alderman majored in American history and government. By CAROL CURRY West Street Elementary School���s Campfire Night was a huge success Dec. 6 Children and their parents walked through doorways with twinkling lights and listened to guitar music, songs and stories read by teachers and two guest readers, Officer Heather Vance from the Corning Police Department and Simpson University for Seniors is accepting students Camilla Delsid, Tehama County for spring classes that start in January. January courses cover a history of Christianity in its first five centuries (taught by the Rev. Jeffrey Smith) and a survey of American music (taught by Simpson music professor Dan Pinkston). Classes start Jan. 7. Other topics this spring include a study of the biblical book of Revelation; an introduction to Christian apologetics; a historical geography of Israel; an exploration of global music; a study of Jewish leader Flavius Josephus; and a deeper look at author C.S. Lewis. Simpson University Seniors is a program designed for individuals over the age of 50 who are interested in studying a variety of topics in monthlong, not-for-credit courses. The classes meet 10:20-11:20 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Simpson���s campus, for a total of 10 one-hour instructional sessions. Courses are taught by university professors and professionals in their field of expertise, and there are no tests, grades or homework. Two courses are offered each month through April. The cost is $95 per person, per course, or $145 per couple, per course. Register online at simpsonu.edu/seniorschool, or call (530) 226-4146. University for seniors accepting students Director of Northern Valley Catholic Social Service (NVCSS). West Street Elementary School staff in collaboration with NVCSS Corning Family Resource Center decorated the multipurpose room and four classrooms with the campfire theme, including tents, forest trees and bushes and mock fire pits that glimmered like the glow of a fire. After families listened to their favorite winter story or two they joined other parents in a social gettogether where their children made a fun campfire craft hats and all enjoyed hot chocolate with marshmallows and graham crackers. ���The children and parents had smiles on their faces and shared how impressed they were with this event,��� Principal Joe Lodigiani said. SERRF students honor seniors at Brentwood STAR testing perfection Courtesy photo Santa���s SERRF elves are hard at work creating place mats for Brentwood Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center on Walnut Street in Red Bluff. On Dec. 7, SERRF Liaison Nora Schwaller and eight SERRF students visited the center and spread holiday cheer to the seniors. In addition to the trip, students will be holding Holiday Clubs every Tuesday and Thursday, getting everyone into the holiday spirit. Christmas carols, crafts and lots of good cheer is the goal. Their letters were included in the Christmas packages sent to the 17 Tehama County soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and Kosovo. Courtesy photo Mrs. Harman has been reading different versions of the famous story The Gingerbread Man to her kindergarten class at Sacred Heart School. Students listened to The Gingerbread Girl and the students��� favorite, The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett. Mrs. Trotter, a retired teacher, brought the class a large gingerbread man cookie about two feet tall and decorated in frosting and candy. The students came back into the classroom after recess and could not find their gingerbread man. Mrs. Riberal-Norton said, "I did not see him, but I did hear a loud noise come from the kindergarten room." The students made "Missing Gingerbread Man" signs and are still looking for their gingerbread man. If you see him, please let the kindergarten class know right away.
