4A Daily News Friday, December 14, 2012 Party raises money for Wayfinding Project People put their faith in Tehama County this month by paying to shop local, raising $2,600 for the local Wayfinding effort of the Tehama County Economic Prosperity Branding Project. More than 200 people attended the Hottie Holiday Party, which showcased local crafters and boutiques, and featured a Foodie Contest of appetizers prepared by local professional and amateur chefs. "The money was raised through ticket sales to the event and a no host bar," said Susan Muench, Branding Project Committee member. "It was a wonderful event, and really drew attention to the high caliber of fashion, crafts, and products available in this area. The culinary talents represented in the Foodie Contest were also outstanding, and Im sure it wasnt easy for the judges to pick a winner. "It was a very hard decision to chose the winner of the Foodie Contest," said Caesar Flores, one of the contest judges. "I chose the Saucy Pork Tenderloin because it was rich and juicy and had a distinctive blend of spices. It tasted homemade, and I really enjoy home cooking." The Saucy Pork Tenderloin, prepared by Demetra Jones, was the first place winner of the Foodie Contest. Smokin Hot Pizza was the second place winner, and third place went to the Cupcake NEW Merino Wool Socks project will help raise awareness of what Tehama County has to offer and help make us more competitive to tourism." "My husband and I grew up in Tehama County and moved back after 14 years because of the College offers retirement planning workshop GREAT GIFTS Sheepskin Slippers HOTTEST BOOTS on the market Couture, Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes. The Hottie Holiday Party was held at the home of Liz Kremer, an enthusiastic supporter of the Branding Project. "We were thrilled to offer our home for the cause," Kremer said. "The wonderful attributes in this area including the Sacramento River, Lassen Park, Manton Wineries, and a darling downtown in Red Bluff," Kremer said. "Many people coming off I-5 dont know about Kelly Griggs museum, Tehama County museum, Dog Island and many other wonderful destinations throughout Tehama County. The Wayfinding project will help raise awareness of what Tehama County has to offer and how to get there." The Wayfinding Project is an ambitious venture that Kremer and others hope will provide visitors with more positive experiences and memories in the area. "While signage is fundamental to the project, wayfinding is much more involved than putting up a few signs," Kremer said. "It is almost like an engineering puzzle to ensure valuable experiences are not missed and that the signs are at strategic locations to guide people to their destinations easily." The tough economy combined with the recent heavy rains have left The Salvation Army struggling to keep vital services alive this holiday season but one local contributor is trying to change that. When a local contributor to The Salvation Army who wishes to remain anonymous found out that a combination of circumstances this year had put the Red Kettle campaign more that $6,000 behind what was raised last year and well below what is needed to meet the needs of families in Tehama County this Christmas and beyond, he could do nothing more than respond. It is heartwarming to know that one person can care so much about others that they will give so generously noted Major Kit Wetter. The anonymous donor has made a gift of $3,000 and has challenged local business, groups, churches and individuals to rally behind The Salvation Army and match his contribution. During Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army distributed 250 food boxes to struggling families and plans to do the same for Christmas. Families with children will also receive toys for those in the family under 12. In addition to The Salvation Armys important work during the holidays close to 200 families every month receive help with services such as food, clothing vouchers, utility and rent assistance. We pray our community will accept this challenge and match the generosity one kind individual has demonstrated as we rely solely on the generosity of our community said Major Kit Wetter.
