Spartans fall to Highlanders in opening round of Holiday Classic 5:30 p.m. TBD Helix Daily News photo by Andre Byik By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor The Red Bluff Spartans varsity basketball team couldnt repeat its slim victory over the Helix Highlanders in last years Holiday Classic. The Spartans fell 5543 to the Highlanders in a match that saw the spotlight on Helixs Romario Wilson, who broke out for 17 points and eight boards in the teams opening round matchup. The Spartans, after falling behind early and losing the first quarter 16-8, found their offense late in the second with the help of Evan Sinclairs three points, and a couple of buckets from Matthew Fox. Red Bluff, keeping Helix to nine points in the period, went into halftime with a manageable 3-point deficit at 25-22. But the Spartans would start the second half sloppy, committing turnovers that translated into easy baskets for the Highlanders. Helixs Titus Young dropped eight in the frame, followed by five from Wilson. Red Bluffs offense reverted back to its first quarter woes as the team converted just three field goals in a quarter where the team totaled nine points.
