2A Daily News Friday, December 14, 2012 Community people&events District welcomes podiatrist Dr. Byron Carrasco, a podiatrist, is opening an office in Corning. Dr. Song from Redding made the announcement. Dr Carrasco graduated from New York College of Podiatric Medicine and specializes in podiatric foot and ankle surgery. I am a firm believer in the value of individuality and diversity of patients, Carrasco said. My personal goal is to help each person maintain the best possible quality of life. According to http://diabetes.webmd.com/footproblems 10 percent of people with diabetes will develop foot ulcers. The American Diabetes Association recommends those who suf- Carrasco fer from diabetes should examine their feet daily for injury. A doctor should be consulted if the feet change shape, color or if there is a cut or wound. This is because uncontrolled diabetes can destroy nerve endings causing loss of feeling in the feet. The person is then unable to feel heat, cold or pain. The damaged area can become infected as a result. To take care of your feet, 1) wash your feet daily, 2) keep your feet soft and smooth, 3) trim toenails when needed 4) wear socks and shoes at all times, 5) protect your feet from heat or cold, 6) keep you feet up when sitting to increase blood circulation to that area. Dr. Carrasco will be a welcome treasure to patients in the southern part of the county who previously had to find a way to travel to Chico or as far as Redding to see a podiatrist. But with Dr Carrasco located at 175 Solano street in Corning, professional foot and ankle care is more easily accessible. Carrasco specifically studied Diabetic Foot Disorder and foot surgery. His ability to speak both English and Spanish is an asset to our community, said Guadalupe Green, president of Corning Healthcare District. We are excited that he is coming to Corning. Dr. Carrasco and his wife enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. Avid fans of nature, the couple takes pleasure in leisurely walks and hikes in urban areas. When life becomes hectic one of their favorite places to unwind is at the beach.
