Copyright © 2018 Our 2017 Community Health Needs Assessment surveyed our communities to help identify priority health needs. Many respondents felt access to fresh fruits and vegetables is a barrier to good health in our communities. In fact, a Michigan State University study has shown that those participating in a community garden consume 1.4 times the amount of fruits and vegetables each day compared with those who do not participate in gardening. Marlette Regional Hospital is pleased to announce that we will once again have a Community Garden, and we invite area residents to participate by adopting a garden plot! There is no cost, but adopters will be expected to care for their garden plot throughout the growing season. Seeds, water and tools will be provided at the site, and at the end of the growing season we plan to hold community classes on how to prepare fruits and vegetables for fresh eating and how to can or freeze the produce so you can enjoy it throughout the winter months. The Community Garden project will be located behind (west of) the main entrance to the hospital, just north of the parking lot. If you have interest in having your own garden plot, please contact Brooke Stafford at 989-635-4002, and she will get the paperwork and registration forms forwarded to you. Space is limited.
