T he spring semester was a busy and exciting time for Mu, as we welcomed 19 outstanding young women into our chapter. "Spring recruitment reminded me of why I joined Chi Omega in the first place," Recruitment Chairman Anna Ginther '17 said. "I can already see the values of Mu in our new member class, making me even more proud to be a part of this incredible sisterhood." New Member Educator Kat McLaughlin '17 has enjoyed getting to know our new member class as well. "Not only do I get to pass on Chi Omega ritual and values to new members of our house, but I get to be their fun and funky older sister," Kat said. "This opportunity has provided me amazing leadership skills and the ability to get to know women in all new member classes on a more personal level." CHI OMEGAS IN THE COMMUNITY AND ON CAMPUS The sisters of Mu have been active leaders within our chapter and within our campus com- munity. To name a few, Emma Vickery '18 is competing with Cal Club Golf and placed fifth individually, while also helping Cal take home first overall at the Pacific Region Tournament. Laura Maule '18 has been invited by UCSF Department of Medicine-Prevention Science to participate in a conference in Maryland due to her ongoing research with HIV and public health. Benni Cinkle '16 has been accepted via early admission to Teach for America and will participate in a Teaching Fellowship this sum- mer for Breakthrough Collaborative. We are so proud of our sisters and their commitment to personal and career pursuits. LOOKING AHEAD Mu chapter is excitedly preparing for our semiannual scholarship dinner hosted by Vice President Sonnet Phelps '17, a social event coordinated by Social Director Brooke Elconin '17, and our upcoming sister- hood retreat in Monterey made possible by Sisterhood Director Hannah Farrell '16. We welcome alumnae to visit the chapter house anytime. We would love to have you over for dinner, brunch, or house tours. We hope to see you soon! This is espe- cially true of Ann Van Houten Grant '54, who pioneered this key role at Mu chapter. Ann served on the Chi Omega Association for more than 19 years, where she devel- oped many of the business processes and practices that our House Director uses today. She was also involved with the house corporation board and served as its treasurer for many years. Her great insight and sense of responsibility brought about valuable change to our beloved sisterhood, and our chapter is forever grateful for her contributions. Ann entered Chapter Omega on September 15, 2017, at age 82. She graduated from UC-Berkeley in 1957, where she was vale- dictorian of her class. She later earned her secondary teaching credential, married her husband, Donald, and taught physical edu- cation at Miramonte High School in Orinda for six years.
