P A G E 3 | N O T E S O F T H E L Y R E Phi's Return to Rock Chalk Revue Brings Six Awards Strongest Chapter Recruitment Ever; 95 Sisters Make Dean's List T he women of Phi Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega would like to express our gratitude for our alumnae base, who provide us with exemplary role models as we progress toward post-collegiate life. I am fortunate to be in a chapter full of thriving women during my undergraduate experience. Though change is constant, tradition remains strong at Phi Chapter. I am excited to share our accomplishments over the past few months. Rock Chalk Revue Performance Earns Phi Six Awards For the first time in more than 15 years, Phi Chapter made it to the Rock Chalk Revue! We performed with the women of Alpha Delta Pi at this year's show in March, which highlighted significant women throughout KU's history and women's empowerment. We received six awards, including the Audience's Choice award. Phi Moves up Four Academic Ranks, 95 Sisters Make Dean's List We've made great academic improvement, achieving a chapter GPA of 3.36 last fall, which placed us sixth out of the 12 Panhellenic sororities at the University of Kansas. This was a 0.06 increase from our previous semester GPA and 10th place ranking. Additionally, 95 Phi women made the Dean's List. A small, celebratory dessert gathering was held for our sisters who earned a 3.7 GPA or higher. "Our chapter has made steady scholastic improvement," said Vice President of Intellectual Development Haley Wagner '16. "We hope to continue this success, working to better our academics in order to become a stronger chapter and stronger women." Best Recruitment Year in Chapter History This year, we placed in the top percentile for recruitment of our 2017 new member class and achieved our strongest recruitment in Phi Chapter history! Vice President of Recruitment Allison Obarski '16 shared, "I am grateful to be in a position to guide our chapter as we work toward higher standards." Sisters Raise $1,200 for The Willow Domestic Violence Center In December, we partnered with Kappa Sigma fraternity for the second year in a row to host a holiday service event at the Kappa Sigma house, where we decorated cards for families at the community shelter. Phi sisters also supported our local philanthropy, The Willow Domestic Violence Center, raising a total of $1,200 for the organization over the past year, including contributions from The Purple Purse and Allstate Insurance. We held our spring fundraiser, Loaded Fries with Alpha Chis, at our chapter house on April 11. We are now in the early stages of planning a community service event with our sister chapter, Gamma Phi Beta. Active and Involved on Campus Our members remain very involved on campus. Allison Kmeicik '16 serves as director of public relations for the Panhellenic executive board and Adrien Valmont '15 serves as director of health and safety. Alexandra Carroll '17 and I were among the 15 students chosen as university global scholars, while Kaya Nies '17 was one of 20 selected to be a university scholar. Brianna Mears '16 and Lauren Lanz '15 are on the Student Alumni Leadership board, sophomore Natalie Gibson '16 is vice president of public relations for the Journalism School Ambassadors, and junior Jaidan Royal '16 is the vice president of Filmworks, a KU film and production organization. New Parent's Club President Phi Chapter is pleased to welcome new Parent's Club president Valerie Miller, mother of 2017 initiate Julia Miller. Thank you, Valerie, for taking on this role and supporting our chapter. We also extend gratitude to former Parent's Club president Christine Biel for the many years of service she provided. Phi Chapter's leadership is strong, and the dedication and determination of our executive board do not go unnoticed. It has been rewarding for our sisters to experience all of our successes this year. Thank you, alumnae, for your support of our chapter. Please know that the door is always open for you to visit.
