Meganumber: 22. 3A Cranberries: More than relish Did you know that there are 440 cranberries in one pound? And 4,400 cranberries in one gallon of juice? And 440,000 cranberries in a 100-pound barrel? That Americans consume some 400 million pounds of cranberries each year? For sure they are delicious, but there are so many other ways you can use fresh cranberries. Centerpiece. Start with Styrofoam balls, any size. Cut a bunch of wood toothpicks in half. Stick a pick into the ball so that about 1/2inch is sticking out. Push a cranberry onto the toothpick until it touches the foam ball. Repeat until the ball is covered, placing the cranberries close enough so the white ball does not show through. Set your cranberry balls on candle holders of various heights, or pile them into a large bowl. Glitter. In a medium bowl, stir together 2 tablespoons water and 1 tablespoon pasteurized egg white (or one raw egg white) until blended but not whipped. Coat raw cranberries with this mixture. Spread granulated sugar on a baking sheet and roll the cranberries in it until they are covered. Dry at room temperature for 2 hours. Use as garnish for desserts, or eat them plain. Sugared cranberries almost sparkle, they are so pretty. Police reports The following information is compiled from Red Bluff Police Department, Tehama County Sheriff's Department, Corning Police Department and California Highway Patrol. Arrests • Cassandra Marie Anderson, 32, Goleta was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and two charges of failure to appear on a felony charge. Bail was $15,000. • Michael Dewayne Crawley, 47, Corning was arrested at the Corning Burger King Friday for assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. Bail was $100,000. • Ashley Nicole Delarosa, 25, Redding was arrested Saturday on South Avenue and Interstate 5 for felony charges of transportation of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance as well as misdemeanors of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Bail was $46,000. • Kevin Scott Hodge, 22, Redding was arrested Sunday at Walmart for vehicle theft. Bail was $150,000. • Jose Chavez Magana, 34, Red Bluff was arrested Saturday on S. Main Street for possession of a controlled substance. Magana had an outstanding charge of the same felony as well as misdemeanor failure to appear. Bail was $30,000. • Teresa Ann Morrow, 44, Los Molinos was arrested Saturday near C and 2nd streets following a traffic stop. A consent search of her vehicle turned up 0.1 grams of methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe. Morrow was charged with felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance and misdemeanor paraphernalia. Bail was $33,000. • Michael David Quirk, 63, Los Molinos was arrested for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. Bail was $50,000. • Joshua Gayle, 33, of Benicia was arrested Saturday and booked into Tehama County Jail on the charges of hit and run, driving on a suspended license and not having insurance following a collision at Rolling Hills Casino. Gayle hit the right front of a big rig from Oregon about 1:20 a.m. Saturday in the casino's parking lot with the front of his white Ford F150 pickup, which was hauling a trailer, before fleeing the scene. Burglary A storage unit on the 4000 block of Marguerite Avenue was reported to have been broken into Friday. Theft • Walmart reported two thefts Friday and another Saturday. • A theft was reported on Frankie Street Friday. • A theft was reported at the Walnut Street Apartments Saturday. • A dog was reportedly stolen Sunday near Musick and Lay. • A theft was reported at the Grant Street Apartments Sunday. • A red yard machine brand 25-ton wood splitter valued at $800 was taken from someone on the 20000 block of High- way 36W. • A resident in the 1000 block of Dusty Way reported the theft of fuel Sunday. • A GPS unit valued at $200 was reportedly taken from an unlocked truck on the 19000 block of Indian Creek Drive. • Miscellaneous items were reported stolen from property on the 16000 block of Basler Road. • Corning Police are searching for leads in a vehicle theft of a white Chevy Impala taken from Colusa Street. The owner, who works doing home health care, reported about 7:30 a.m. Thursday that she had parked her vehicle on Colusa Street and returned to where she parked about 7:30 a.m. to find it missing. The vehicle was unlocked and there was a spare key inside it. The vehicle was later found parked elsewhere in Corning. There are no leads or suspects. Someone contacted the police Friday to advise a shop behind the residence had been broken into and items were taken with drawers left open. • Someone reported to Corning Police the theft of video equipment from Solano Street. • Someone reported at 5:34 a.m. Saturday at Holiday Inn Express on Sunrise Avenue in Corning that a cash drawer had been taken within the last 40 minutes. Another call was received Sunday that the cash drawer had been found. Nothing further was available. Vandalism • A man reportedly vandalized the stop sign at Madison and Pine streets. • Vandalism was reported at Jackson Heights School Friday. • Someone reported Saturday morning on Rio Vista Court in Corning that the handle to her door had been broken off. Swap A man on the 7000 block of Sherwood Boulevard reported Saturday that $50 in Christmas decorations had been taken from outside his home. In their place was a wishing well made from welded horseshoes. The owner of the well turned out to be a woman on the 25000 block of Palm Street. Her well was returned to her. Collision A 48-year-old Corning man was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital with moderate injuries by his brother following a collision at 1:30 p.m. Saturday on Highway 99W at Gerber Road. Mohamed Elshenawy was driving his Mercedes south on Highway 99W when he was rearended by a Chrysler Sebring driven by Emanuel Schroier III of Corning. Elshenawy had stopped on 99W, waiting to make a turn onto Gerber Road. For unknown reasons, Schroier, who was approaching from behind at 50 mph saw Elshenawy, but failed to stop prior to hitting his Mercedes. The impact, which caused major damage to both vehicles, sent Elshenawy's Mercedes in a southeast direction, coming to rest on the east shoulder facing in east. Crash A 28-year-old Gerber man was flown to Enloe Hospital with major injuries in a solo vehicle DUI crash at 9:55 p.m. Sunday on Gerber Road, just west of San Benito Avenue. Juan Aguilarrios was driving east on Gerber Road when he lost control of the vehicle on the railroad tracks. He was arrested on the charge of DUI, but released to hospital for treatment. Lost • A woman reported Friday to police that her husband lost $380 between Valero and Rite Aid in Corning sometime on Tuesday.
