GAMMA PHI BETA 3 Rock Chalk Revue directors. S igma Chapter, partnered with Phi Gamma Delta brothers and earned top show in this year's Rock Chalk Revue! They took home 10 trophies in all: best costumes, best choreography, best production number, best original song, best male performance, best supporting male, best sup- porting female, best use of set, best chorus, and of course, best show! It was truly outstanding to watch 25 of our Gamma Phi members in the show. Gamma Phi Beta partnered with Phi Gamma Delta and won first place at Rock Chalk Revue. ΓΦΒ, FIJI EARN TOP SHOW AT ROCK CHALK REVUE 2018 is off to a great start at Sigma Chapter! After winning Rock Chalk Revue, preparing for our annual philanthropy, and participating in community service, we are looking forward to Gamma Phi Mom's Weekend, our annual Crescent Ball, and honoring our senior members during Senior Celebration. Although Greek life at KU has faced some challenges within the past couple of months, we have strengthened our sisterhood and opportunities to grow as a chapter and Panhellenic community. FOCUSING ON ACADEMICS International Gamma Phi Beta is rolling out a new program in the fall to replace the current scholar- ship program. In preparation, we have doubled the size of our academics committee and are educating our members about the new guidelines. Our scholarship chairwoman, Kylie Rellihan '16 has worked hard to proctor study hours and match older members with younger members who are looking for academic assistance to help them be successful in all their classes. PREPARING FOR FORMAL RECRUITMENT After welcoming our largest new member class ever last fall, Sigma Chapter is already gearing up for August's recruitment. Recommendations from our alumnae are always appreciated. "As our success in formal recruitment helped us welcome 73 new members in the fall, we are pre- paring for our next recruitment and can't wait to meet the potential new members of 2018!" Nina Ricci '16, membership vice president, said. BRINGING HOME THE GOLD One of our most exciting accomplishments this semester was winning Rock Chalk Revue. Our chapter was paired with Phi Gamma Delta and together our show took home 10 of the 16 awards, including Best Overall Show! This was a great way to showcase our talented members and spend time with one another. Our members have also bonded through our intramural teams. "Our intramural teams have done amazing so far this semester! Our basketball team ended the league in third place and made it all the way into the final four of the post-season playoff tourna- ment," Grace Scopp '17, intramurals chairman, said. KU GREEK LIFE AND SIGMA CHAPTER In recent months, Greek life at KU has had negative media attention due to problems with hazing, sexual assault, and alcohol abuse within the fraternities. Understanding how the actions of a few members can affect our community as a whole, we have stepped up our programming to educate our members on how to combat this negative attention. Through Gamma Phi Beta's Fidelity monthly programming, our members have completed online and in-chapter educa- tional activities to enhance our understanding of the dangers of alcohol and hazing, as well as Gamma Phi Beta's vision to build confident, resilient women of character, and a strong network of mentors and leaders. Our chapter also has three members who have been trained in the CARE (Campus, Assistance, Resource and Education) Sisters program, serving as peer counselors for those in our chapter and the Greek community who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. Through these programs, we hope to make Greek life and Gamma Phi a safe and supportive organization for all our members. THANK YOU! Overall, we are excited about our accomplish- ments this semester, and look forward to welcom- ing a new pledge class in the fall. Thank you so much for all alumnae support and please stop by to visit us at 1339 West Campus Road! (1) Sigma sisters on the university dance team.
