2 Lambda Lamp S teve Szymanski '74 recently rekindled his bond with Alpha-Delta Zeta. After moving away from Rolla due to work, he's now retired and able to focus on giving back to organizations that helped make him the man he is today—organizations like Lambda Chi Alpha. "My experience at Lambda Chi Alpha made me a better person with a better understanding of the tools I needed to be successful in business and life," Steve says. Steve will be serving as the House Corporation vice president and hopes to play a part in the continued suc- cess of the Chapter. Now that he's reconnected with Lambda Chi, it's been exciting for Steve to see the changes and growth in the Chapter since he was last there. "The brothers have an excellent focus on their academics, along with very strong support for the house," he says. "They continue traditions that made us strong when I was there and they have built on the past to make the brotherhood even stronger." Traditions of being an Alpha-Delta member include having a strong drive for academic achievement, involvement on campus, and always supporting your brothers. Steve hopes to encourage the undergraduates to maintain these traditions and to support the rest of the House Corporation board. As Steve comes into his new role with the Chapter, he acknowledges he wouldn't be where he is in life if it weren't for the values that were instilled in him through his Lambda Chi Alpha experience. After graduating from Missouri University of Science and Technol- ogy, Steve went on to earn his master's in business as well as a master's degree in management. "The values that were imparted to me at Lambda Chi drove me to achieve these things," he says. "Much of my successes in life after Rolla could be tied to my years at Lambda Chi Alpha and my brothers who truly supported me." The reason men continue to choose Alpha-Delta Zeta is because of what membership in this organization stands for. As long as mem- bers continue to live out the values of Lambda Chi Alpha, the Chapter will remain strong and have a presence on MS&T's campus. Devoting time back to the Chapter is just one example of how brothers can continue to connect with the brotherhood. "I want to begin to give back to a house that gave me so much while I was there, in so many ways—including education and brotherhood." Steve lives in Chicago, Ill., and has two sons: Mike, a high school physics teacher, and Tom, a computer program analyst. His wife, Linda Gowdy Szymanski, who spent time with Steve at the Lambda Chi Chapter House, recently passed away this year.
