A t the beginning of spring semester, we celebrated the Crimson Tide's win over the Georgia Bulldogs at the National Championship game in Atlanta, Georgia. Not only did we get to watch the Tide bring home another national championship trophy, but we had the privilege of watching our very own members, Heather Grubbs '14 and Janna Meeks '15, cheer on the sidelines. Heather has been a member of the All-Girl Alabama cheerleading team throughout her four years at the Capstone. Janna has been a member of the Alabama Crimsonette team for the past three years. Psi Chapter Achieves Third Place for Academics The celebration continued as we returned home to Tuscaloosa from the game, where our chapter placed third in scholastic achievement with a 3.62 GPA. In addition, our new member pledge class was recognized for having the highest GPA among all of the sororities' new member pledge classes during the fall 2017 semester with a 3.71 GPA. This is well above the all-Greek women's average of 3.42. We had a record year with 118 members that achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall 2017 semester! Members Package 10,000 Meals for Philanthropy Psi Chapter continued to excel on campus in the field of philanthropy. This year, Alpha Gamma Delta started a new program called Week of Service. For one week during February our chapter, along with several other Alpha Gamma Delta chapters, participated in various service events. Psi Chapter spent the week volunteering at a local nursing home and the West Alabama Food Bank. Our members collected and donated more than 1,000 cans to the local food bank. We also hosted a percentage night with Mooyah Burger, where 10% of the proceeds from the meals sold were donated to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. To finish off the week, we hosted a food packing event at the chapter house for Rise Against Hunger. This event resulted in 10,000 packaged meals, which will be sent to various underserved locations around the world! Chapter Awarded at Greek Excellence Banquet At the 2018 Greek Excellence Awards Banquet, Psi Chapter was recognized as the Most Outstanding University and Community Relations sorority on campus. One of our members, Monica Spence '14, was named this year's Alabama Greek Programming Board Member of the Year. We owe the philanthropic success of our chapter to our excellent philanthropy programming team as well as to all of our members who exceed in all aspects of campus involvement. Our chapter could not have reached these achievements without their endless devotion to the community and our chapter. Sisters Honor Rose Ball Tradition On March 23, we celebrated a Psi Chapter tradition—Rose Ball! This was an incredibly special event for us, as it is only hosted once every four years. The entire chapter dressed in long, formal gowns and headed to Birmingham for one of the most exciting nights of our college careers. This event would not have been possible without the help of our dedicated event programming team and our incredible alumnae that evening. Thanks to the volunteers, the night was a success and we were able to make special memories with our sisters that will last a lifetime. Psi Chapter Members Achieve Campus Distinction Many of our members were a part of UA's Honors Day Tapping on the Mound. I am thrilled to announce that Ayssa Barefield '15 was tapped into XXXI and Anderson Society. Callie Cochran '15, Claire Dickson '16, Tanner Fant '15, Allie Mckee '15, Morgan Pate '15, Erin Rector '15, Laura Catherine Wallace '16, and Sarah Westmoreland '15 were tapped into Mortar Board. Alyssa Barefield '15, Tanner Fant '15, and Allie Mckee '15 were tapped into Blue Key Honor Society. Maria Caprio '15, Tanner Fant '15, and Laura Catherine Wallace '16 were tapped into Omicron Delta Kappa. We are so proud of these outstanding women in our chapter and the exceptionally high achievements they were recognized for at the Capstone! Thank You, Alumnae Looking ahead, we will be hosting our second annual Alpha Grammys, where our members will come together for a special dinner and awards ceremony at the chapter house. Members will have the opportunity to nominate their sisters for awards to honor them for their devotion to the chapter. We are cherishing every moment with one another and encourage our esteemed alumnae to stop by the chapter house any time. Psi Chapter would not be the organization it is today without your guidance. In just a few short months, we will be back to prepare for primary fall recruitment and to welcome home a new pledge class!
