she recalled. "I loved that trip because it taught me to appreciate the things that I have. Everyone was just happy to be there and to be alive." She currently volunteers at Lincoln Lighthouse, a local after-school program that helps struggling middle and high school students. The program provides services such as tutoring and keeping students accountable for grades, provides snacks and meals, and gives them a safe place to go if they get suspended. "Lighthouse helps kids succeed instead of fail, and teaches them that their mistakes don't define them," Hannah said. "The main goal is to help them graduate from high school. In some cases they are the first in their family to graduate." Overall, Hannah is thrilled with her time in Pi Chapter so far. "It's been an honor to have a big impact with other girls on campus and create lasting relationships," she said. "I'm excited to see where all my friendships go." A Slice of Pi MAKING AN IMPACT (Continued from page 1) P i Chapter concluded a successful fall semester and is now off to a phenomenal start this spring. Last fall, the chapter hosted two philanthropic events: Scoops for Schools and French Toast Feed. Scoops for Schools is a collaborative philanthropic event with FarmHouse, during which chapter members served homemade ice cream sandwiches with Cookie Co. cookies. More than $5,300 was donated to Lincoln Lighthouse. At the French Toast Feed, we raised more than $7,300 to support Girls on the Run at the national and local levels. This spring, we are excited to host Moonball for the second year. Moonball is a campus-wide volleyball tournament to support Girls on the Run. Our dedication to our philanthropic efforts is continuously expanding, and the members' understanding of Gamma Phi Beta's philanthropic mission, "Building Strong Girls," is taking a strong foundation at Pi Chapter. Angie Miller '82 joined us as our chapter advisor this semester, and we are so lucky to have her! Angie and I attended the REAL Leadership Academy in February, where we met every president and chapter advisor from other chapters. We were able to collaborate with other chapters and improve in our leadership roles. What a tremendous opportunity it was to experience the sorority in such a memorable way and recognize the significant impact it has had on so many women! In the fall, we achieved a chapter GPA of 3.641, which was the second highest on campus. We also achieved Gold Status in recycling from the city of Lincoln; only five establishments received this honor. Additionally, our executive team continues to set goals for the future. We are excited to work together as leaders for this team and our chapter. Our mission statement is as follows: "We will foster an environment of commonality and connectedness between all members to empower chapter advancement and pursuit of individual passions." We are looking forward to a great spring semester and have many exciting events planned.
