"I didn't necessarily fall into it," Ben said of the latter, "but I saw it as some- thing that needed to be done and thought I could make a difference." He considers this mindset a distinct strength of Washington Beta's brothers, stemming from the chapter's culture. "Guys look for ways to help make the house more success- ful and if they see an area that they can help, there will be guys who step up to fill the roles that are beneficial." This philosophy didn't end with graduation. In addition to his job as a financial analyst for Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Ben serves on the alumni board that he helped get started back when he was an alumni chair- man. On that board he acts as one of a few advisors to the Eminent Archon, but he tries to be a resource for the entire chapter as well. "As an undergrad, I had that same support," Ben said of the decision to remain so engaged after college. "Being on the alumni board al- lows me to pay back what was given to me during both good and tough times." Ben said another benefit unique to Washington Beta is how it acts as an "incubator" for people to step up in their positions after college. "We all had different styles and personalities," he said of the board he served on during col- lege, "but we all wanted to make a difference, and the fraternity helped us do that. From public speaking to developing ideas to just having feedback from a large group of people, it helps you develop a lot of great leadership skills." In his spare time, Ben likes to golf and spend time with friends, about 95 percent of whom are WSU and Wash- ington Beta alumni. "We are the keepers of our own des- tiny and can do whatever we put our mind to, and Wash- ington Beta helped shape that." "Brotherhood is not just four years, it is for the long haul."
