p. 2 The DePauw Phi Tom Bridges '82 Recalls the Beginning of His Professional Success at DePauw T om Bridges '82 has made a name for himself in the world of finance. His success is an inspira- tion to the undergraduates and recent alumni of In- diana Zeta and they are seeking him out for job and networking advice. Network connections are just one of the many benefits to Fraternity life and cer- tainly part of the Phi Delta Theta brotherhood. "I make it a point to be available when undergradu- ates are trying to connect with me. That type of zeal in the field will benefit them tremendously." He ad- vises young Indiana Zetas to "follow your passion and your dedication will set you on a path to success." Tom's influential role in the finance industry has allowed him to facilitate connections for his brothers, mostly in the Chicago area. "I am honored that these young men seek me out for advice and am glad I have the opportunity to help my brothers." Tom always knew that finance was in his future and attributes the origin of his interest to his father's passion for business. In 2003, Tom and three other colleagues founded the wealth management firm known as Geneva Advisors. The company soared in the 15 years of their ownership from six employees to 105 employees and $400 million to $8.7 billion in assets under management. "That would have to be one of my proudest moments, starting something I was passionate about and building a company that had a culture I was honored to be a part of. I can honestly say we took care of our people and had a great run for 15 years." Geneva Advisors was acquired in September 2017 and Tom became the Managing Director/Head of Wealth Management at CIBC Atlantic Trust in Chicago. DePauw University holds a special place for the family. Tom graduated from DePauw with a bachelor's degree in economics and business in 1983. He married his wife, Cynthia Treadwell, in 1984. Cynthia is an alumna of Delta Gamma at DePauw. They raised two daughters, Shelby and Lauren. Shelby also attended DePauw, graduating in 2012 as a Kappa, and married Brian Spector '09. Tom reflects on the camaraderie he enjoyed as an Indiana Zeta undergradu- ate. "We had a fabulous courtyard in the middle of the Chapter House; it was one of a kind. We used that space for many social events and house dances. It was a great place to congregate and we all spent much of our free time there." Indiana Zeta's diversity was unique as far as other fraternities, in that our members included the quarterback of the football team as well as the student body president of DePauw. Tom has been given the opportunity to be a part of Phi Delta Theta on a larger scale. "I am still involved as an alumnus and acting as the invest- ment manager for the Mitchell Fund. The fund supports the publishing and distribution of The Scroll for Phi Delta Theta National." In addition to his collaboration with the Phi Delta Theta home office in Oxford, Ohio, Tom still finds time to fit in family time, travel and tennis. But one of his more serious physical commitments is cycling. He participates in two century rides each summer—that's 100 miles per ride!
