OUR NEEDS AND OPPORTUNITIES W hile the Sigma Pi experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the Chapter House, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our brothers and as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Built in 1890, and purchased by Sigma Pi in 1954, 956 Sixth Street has been a part of Beta-Gamma's legacy for 64 years and is showing its age. It has become clear we must make a major investment in our Chapter House if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living environment, and continue to recruit quality new members to the Chapter. KEEPING OUR BROTHERS SAFE Physical and safety needs The safety of our undergraduate members is of the utmost importance to the Central Illinois Alumni Association; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our members. Aside from structural soundness, Illinois state law mandates that fire-prevention sprinkler systems must be installed in all fraternity houses in the state by January 1, 2019. Much like our personal homes, our Chapter House must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. PURSUING EXCELLENCE Academic and technology needs Eastern Illinois University is as academically challenging as ever and the need for an enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years, as devices not present during our undergraduate years have become necessities, including personal computers, high-speed internet access, security monitoring, and more. Our plan will ensure that Beta-Gamma excels academically and remains scholastic leaders on campus and within the Greek system. SETTING OURSELVES APART Competition While Sigma Pi continues to attract new members, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other fraternities that offer better facilities. We must also compete with the amenities offered in on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. For Sigma Pi to remain a premier fraternity at Eastern Illinois University, we must renovate and expand our facility to attract the quality of men we pride ourselves on.
