Editor: With other disgruntled delivery service drivers throwing packages over fences and gates because they are in such a hurry mandated by their bosses and companies, I thought something should be said about my U.S. Postal mail lady and her helpers when she doesn't work. I don't know their names but to those who handle Cody Drive a big thank you. All my packages come to me undamaged. They always come to my door or do their very best to find a good spot on my back or front porch out of the weather for things that don't fit in the box. They take a minute of their time to provide me with this kind service. They drive carefully in and out watching for critters. Their respect for my properties, critters and self is always noted. They always have a smile and a wave. I just wanted them to know that they are appreciated and that I'm glad that there are still some nice people in this world that take pride in their work and, well, are just nice. Kelly Walen, Red Bluff Water board Editor: How many representatives to the Northern Sacramento Valley Integrated Regional Water Management Group Governing Board does Shasta County need? I was under the impression each county would be represented by three for each county. Tehama County will not be represented by three members if Dean Sherrill continues to serve on this board. Dean Sherrill does not reside in Tehama County and is employed by Rio Alto Water district, zip code 96022 Shasta County, he cannot possibly represent the needs of Tehama County. Tuesday, Oct. 23 Supervisor Bob Williams advised the audience that the appointed person has to either live in Tehama County or be a Manager/Supervisor of a municipal or water service district in Tehama County. The governing board was formed by Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Shasta, Sutter and Tehama counties to develop and implement a long term groundwater management plan for the northern Sacramento Valley. We need to appoint representatives who reside in Tehama County. Let the Tehama County Supervisors know how you feel. Cathy McDonald, Red Bluff $1 million wasted Editor: My personal opinion explains why the following Tehama County Citizens caused this special election. Had District Attorney Gregg Cohen allowed the 2009-2011 Grand Juries to investigate my complaints and the Presiding Judges (20102011) not managed the authority and the duty of this Grand Jury, the "Nielsen" perjury issue would have been settled. These listed names of all parties involved in the Good Old Boy & Girl cover up doesn't include the Hierarchy of the Republican Party, nor the voters who were either ignorant of the alleged facts or didn't care if the candidate Nielsen was an alleged perjurer and committed fraud. 2009-2010 Grand Jury: Presiding Judge Garaventa Foreman James N. Commentary Flynn will be missed on the City Council Since I cover the Red Bluff City Council as part of my beat, I try my best to avoid giving my opinion about city-related issues in my weekly column. But it's without any worry about a knock on my integrity I can say the council lost a good man when Forrest Flynn stepped down from the dais this week. Having served for the better part of three decades either as a councilman or planning commissioner, Forrest surely cast at least one vote along the way that upset everybody in the city at least once. That happens. However, Forrest's opinions on individual issues aren't what made him a good public servant — his kindness and fondness for the community is what did. For a town of 14,000 people Forrest is the perfect ambassador. I know so from personal experience. When I moved to Red Bluff I initially lived across the street from him. As a reporter I felt a little nervous about that situation, I soon learned Forrest could separate politics from neighborly friendliness. Forrest welcomed me to my new home by taking an interest in me as a person. He got to know my wife. His dog got to know my dog. Everytime he saw me he asked how we were doing. New places only become homes when they are populated by people like Forrest. I found Forrest to be a friendly face personally, but professionally I found him to be an open and honest public servant. If I needed additional information or a quote, there was no easier person to contact than Forrest. Simply open up a phone book, find his number and call him. More likely or not he answered. If he didn't, he always returned the call promptly. Forrest had no problem dis- cussing issues some public ser- standing by that belief. Forrest cared deeply when vants would duck.
