Number of seasons for "CSI: Miami" Solution on page 2 CoverStory By George Dickie © Zap2it Pablo Picasso is widely considered one of the 20th century's most influ- ential artists, a passionate and prolific man credited with creating an estimated 50,000 works during his 81-year career. Nearly 50 years after his death, his name is synonymous with artistic innovation. His story is told to dra- matic effect in the second season of National Geo- graphic's anthology series "Genius" subtitled simply "Picasso," premiering Tuesday, April 24. Exec- utive produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and showrunner Ken Biller, the 10-episode series stars Antonio Banderas ("The Mask of Zorro," "Once Upon a Time in Mexico") and Alex Rich ("True De- tective") as old and young Picasso, a Spanish expa- triate whose personal life was marked by tumultu- ous marriages, numerous affairs and shifting political views and alliances. Also in the large cast are Clémence Poésy ("In Bruges") as Francoise Gilot, a French painter whose decade-long affair with Picasso yielded two children; Sebastian Roché ("The Young Pope") as Emile Gilot, Francoise's tyrannical father; Robert Sheehan ("Misfits") as Carlos Casagemas, a fellow artist and close Pi- casso friend; and Poppy Delevingne ("Kingsman: The Golden Circle"), as Marie-Thérèse Walter, a lover and muse of Picas- so. Coming on the heels of the series' well-received first season titled "Ein- stein," this second round was filmed in Malaga, Spain, where both Picas- so and Banderas were born. "It was important for me (to play this character) be- cause Picasso has been a very important figure in my life," Banderas explained to a recent gathering of journalists in Pasadena, Calif. "You have to think when I was going to school, when I was a little kid ... we always crossed in front of Picasso's house where Picasso was born. And, you know, I am talking about a time in Spain in which we didn't have too many interna- tional heroes, so Picasso (transcended) that barrier at a time in which we were pretty much isolated by the dictatorship that we were living in with Francis- co Franco in power." Antonio Banderas stars in "Genius," premiering its second season Tuesday on National Geographic. Antonio Banderas recalls the 'Genius' of Pablo Picasso
