Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Missouri • Spring 2018 House Corporation Plans Summer Work on Chapter House S ummer work and future plans were topics considered when the Alpha Chi Omega House Corporation for Alpha Nu Chapter met on March 11 for its annual meeting. Included in the plans for summer work, which could cost more than $100,000, are: n Furniture for the new front patio area n Replacing several rooms of bedroom furniture n New flooring in all bedrooms with tile floors n Updating the front staircase to open up the foyer and composite room n New windows on the north and west sides of the chapter house n Painting and the usual summer cleaning The future plan discussion included beginning research and design plans for renovation of the kitchen, dining room, guest restrooms, storage areas and house director suite. The kitchen has not been updated since the 1988 renovation and is in definite need of work. We have toured other campus kitchen renovations for ideas and hope to incorporate the best into our plans. Items include creating a 24-hour kitchen-like area for the members that is not a part of the dining room, walk-in refrigerator/freezer for the kitchen, better layout of the food service area and dish return, etc. We hope to configure the space we have to be the most efficient and address the needs of the chapter members of today. This work will require additional funds from fundraising or adjustments to our current loan. The house corporation team appreciates all the support we receive from our alumnae that allows us to keep Alpha Nu competitive for the future. It is important to note that work on the chapter house is a year-round project. Over the winter 2017 break, furniture in the living room, TV room, composite room and lower level was cleaned and the dining room tables were repaired. In addition, carpets were cleaned in the house director's suite and the lower level and area rugs in several rooms were cleaned. The walls in the chapter president's room were repaired and minor repairs were made in three other bedrooms. The house corporation board is composed of three collegiate members (chapter president, vice president finance and vice president facilities) and their respective advisers, 10 alumnae and the house director. We also solicit input from the chapter members by attending chapter meetings twice a year, allowing the members to ask questions and provide ideas. The annual meeting of the house corporation, typically held in March, is an open meeting for all alumnae to attend. Notices are posted in the newsletter and on the chapter alumnae Facebook page and St. Louis, Mid-Mo and Kansas City alumnae chapter Facebook pages. If you are interested, we would love to see you next year.
