I chose to attend Arizona Western College (AWC) because it was local. I had three kids to raise and had to work as well, so the convenience of it was really the deciding factor. Some- times, when you are doing classes solely online, you don't get that feel- ing of belonging to the community of students and faculty, so I decided to take a class at the Parker campus (in addition to my online courses) which was really nice. How did your education at AWC enhance or change your current career path? I don't think that my career path was changed by my attending AWC, but I had a lot of great professors and great classes that made it clear to me that I was very interested in a career in Psychology. What is your best memory of AWC? My greatest memory of AWC was the graduation ceremony that they held in Parker. Having my family there to celebrate my accomplish- ment was amazing. It was also awe- some to see all the other people in my community that were furthering their education. You get so caught up in your own journey sometimes that it's easy to forget that there are so many other people going through the same thing as you. What piece of advice would you give to students considering attending college? My advice to anyone that is con- sidering college is that attending a community college before a univer- sity is so much better. Not only on the pocketbook, but just in general. I went straight from a small town to a big university and I didn't do so well. It's less intimidating dealing AWC featured alumni with a small school and you learn so much about the services that are there to help guide you. Trans- ferring is easy. Did I mention how much more affordable it is...? To learn more about AWC con- tact: Robin Cooper, rizona Western College, La Paz County Center As- sistant, 695 N Kofa, Quartzsite, Ari- zona 85346.
