Eileen Jean Lampron will begin serving her sentence Dec. 13. She is being credited with one day served in See CITY, page 7A Attempted murder suspect in custody A 62-year-old Red Bluff man reportedly tried to stab his girlfriend during a domestic argument Sunday evening. Red Bluff police officers arrived at an apartment on the 1300 block of Grant Street around 6 p.m. Sunday regarding a disturbance between a man and woman, according to a department press release. While enroute, officers were advised the man, David Crannell, had a knife and was being restrained by a neighbor. After arriving, officers learned Crannell and his girlfriend got into an argument regarding their relationship. During the argument Crannell attempted to stab the woman in the stomach. However the blade of the knife broke. Crannell went to retrieve a second knife as the woman attempted to flee the apartment. Crannell caught up to the victim and pulled her back into the apartment. The two began to wrestle over possession of the knife, which fell to the ground. Red Bluff to seat new council tonight By RICH GREENE DN Staff Writer By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer Flooding, power outages and downed power poles and trees were just some of the problems brought by the storm that hit throughout Tehama County over the weekend. In all, Tehama County had 1.68 inches fall in a 72-hour period, starting Friday afternoon, with the biggest spike in rainfall between Saturday evening and Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service website. More rain is expected to fall starting today through Wednesday night, however, the forecast is for sun on Thursday. At least one person was trapped in a vehicle in the Corning area after the man tried to make a right turn and drove into a ditch that was not visible due to flooding. The Corning man had to be rescued by police early Sunday morning after his engine quit working due to water getting into it in the area of Meadowbrook Lane and Center Street, Police Chief Don Atkins said. Clay Parker and Robert Sheppard will take their chairs on the Red Bluff City Council tonight just after retiring councilmen Forrest Flynn and Bob Carrel make their last vote to certify the election results. Parker, Sheppard and returning City Clerk Jo Anna Lopez and City Treasurer Donna Gordy will then be administered the Oath of Office. Tonight���s meeting is scheduled for 7 at City Hall, 555 Washington St. The first decision to face the new councilmen will be regarding the election of a new mayor and mayor pro tem. Once all the seats on the dais are finalized the newly formed council will begin the tasks of appointing members to the city���s various commissions and committees. The city received five applications to fill a 2-year term on the Planning Commission. The applications came from sitting commissioner Jean Moran, motel owner Suren Patel, traffic investigator Gerry Reyes, businessman Bill Moule and real estate broker Robert Martin. The planning commission has rarely met in the past few years. A more pressing agenda item will come at the end of the meeting when the council is being asked to authorize the hiring of an additional fulltime employee within the streets maintenance division. According to a staff report if the request is granted, it is likely that an existing city employee would request a transfer to take the position. The man, later identified as Jonathon Edward Cranfill, was last seen running away wearing the woman���s clothing. Sometime over the weekend a 65-year-old San Benito Avenue resident reported a burglary in which miscellaneous electronics and other items were taken from his home. His neighbor, a 25year-old woman report- urday someone had entered her residence as well and removed miscellaneous items. Total estimated losses in both cases are still being calculated as the victims make inventory of their missing items. In Red Bluff multiple burglaries were reported around Casa Grande Drive. A 58-year-old woman reported sometime in age area on Stoll Road and pried open a side window to a Jayco fifthwheel trailer. A flatscreen television, towels, cooking utensils, food, spices and other miscellaneous household type goods were taken.
