Rodeos and coasters
and kids… Oh my!
W
hen I was a kid – not just a kid at
heart – I loved history. I still do.
I'm new to Northwest Arkansas,
so when I had the chance to visit the Shiloh
Museum of Ozark History in Springdale, I jumped
at the chance. There is so much history held
in the Shiloh Museum and so many stories for
them to tell. The cool thing for me was I got to
tour the museum with a few kids who regularly
volunteer there. You will meet them in this issue.
Be careful… you might learn something.
I didn't know it, but Springdale's Rodeo of the
Ozarks is one of the largest outdoor rodeos in
the nation. I called up Rick Culver and he filled
me in on the cool events kids try out. Ever ridden a sheep? I haven't, but
the kids who compete in mutton busting during the June event do. Check
out some brave mutton busters in this issue. HANG ON… it's going to be
a bumpy ride!
Since we decided to check out the rodeo action in Northwest Arkansas,
we decided you can't go to a rodeo without proper rodeo apparel. I
managed to corral a few kid rodeo fans and get them dressed up in some
western duds for a rodeo inspired fashion shoot. Take a look at Official
Kids Mag's first full-fledged fashion shoot.
I love a roller coaster almost as much as I love a rodeo. I recently ran
up to Branson's Silver Dollar City to be one of the first folks to ride Time
Traveler, the park's $26-million dollar ride. This coaster is crazy fun, if
you're tall enough (51-inches) and brave enough to ride it. It's the world's
fastest, steepest and tallest spinning roller coaster. My new friend, Trot, a
12-year-old from Springfield, took a spin. See what he had to say about the
experience in this issue.
Also, Official Kids Mag talks with a couple of area parents who are
turning tragedy into a positive learning experience with foundations
dedicated to their kids, and we meet some kids who are conquering
medical challenges. They are truly kid
heroes.
Plus, we roll out 16 more pages of
coloring, puzzles and fun activities.
Grab some markers, crayons and a
pencil… the fun is just beginning.
