Beta Tau Housing Corporation of Sigma Kappa at the University of Florida • Spring 2018 Beta Tau ConnSKtion 2 018 has gotten off to a bright start! Our collegians wel- comed a large class of women in the fall and are currently welcoming a spring new member class into our beautiful home. It gives me great pleasure to report that the house corporation is operating in a fiscally sound manner. This is our second fiscal year in our new home and we are well on our way to creating a rainy day fund. As of December 31, 2017, we had $359,042.96 cash available for operations, $90,788.71 in hous- ing and furnishing cash, and $106,279.69 in reserve savings. We are on target for our goal of building our savings back up to $250,000 over the next two years, which is a contingency of our loan. This year we added lighting in the back of the chapter house and installed garbage disposals. Over the summer we plan to identify a better finish for our stairs, purchase additional patio furniture, and add decorative wall art. On Sunday, April 8, we held our 2018 annual meeting where we voted on board members, took questions/comments, and planned for the future. We thank all Beta Tau alumnae who attended the meeting! In Sigma Kappa, Gabrielle Ferro Miller '04 Beta Tau House Corporation Treasurer bthousecorptreasurer@gmail.com L auren "LoLo" Lostetter Gleason '03 says it is hard to put her Sigma Kappa experience into words. Going through recruitment, there was something about Beta Tau that she felt. "It was a warm, inviting, and empowering feeling," Lauren recalls. "These women were proud to be Sigma Kappas and I could see their authenticity about it." Recruitment was also when Lauren coined her own nickname of LoLo. "Although I do think I broke the rule of giving yourself your own nickname, it just stuck. Most people in the chapter never even knew my real name was Lauren!" After joining Beta Tau, Lauren was able to experience her first recruitment as a member of Sigma Kappa. During this time, she learned more about her own sisters and was able to see the bonds of Sigma Kappa on a bigger level.
