Preserving the Future of Purdue SAE Page 3 S A E me. The activities and friendships I made were important to me in my life and I wanted to give back to the fraternity to show my appreciation. I want future generations of young men to have similar experiences and succeed in their life goals as well. I'm sure most of our alumni got something of value out of their experience, and it would be great if they would help pass that value on to others. It would be great if everyone could give a little something; it doesn't have to be a lot. Every donation counts." Roger hopes all the best for Indiana Beta, and while things have definitely changed since he was an undergraduate, he knows the chapter can persevere and forge on. "I don't know what the future will hold, but with the right group of brothers I think Purdue SAE can still be a very viable and important institution keeping up with the changes we're all experiencing. Greek life is in the spotlight right now more than ever, but I firmly believe that fraternities and sororities are great institutions for young people. For me, it's nice to have some historical perspective to see what was and what is now. It's nice to have something that stays with you for the rest of your life." Roger and his wife, Jane, split their time between St. Petersburg, Florida, and Pecos, New Mexico. They have five children between them. Roger worked as a corporate lender before starting his own home building company in 1980. He sold his Chicago company and moved to Tampa where eight years ago he started another real estate home building company, which he recently sold. In his off time, Roger enjoys sailing, getting together with a group of friends and racing to destinations including Mexico, Cuba, and Bermuda. (Continued from page 1) Indiana Beta Excels in Recruitment and Giving Back Chapter Credits Alumni Support for Surge of Success S igma Alpha Epsilon at Purdue University is halfway done with the renovation, which will completely transform the living quarters of our chapter. The first and second phases of the renovation were completed this past summer, and the third and final phase will be completed this upcoming summer. With all the nationwide emphasis on Greek life, I am proud to say that Indiana Beta continues to prosper. RECRUITMENT It's no surprise our chapter continues to thrive on campus due to our revamped recruitment process. With the house being renovated and our prestige on campus, potential new members seek out SAE during the recruitment weeks. Our chapter has been able to recruit new member class sizes of 40-50 men each of the last fall recruitment cycles. Size, however, is not what sets us apart. During recruitment, we bid interested young men based on their academics, leadership qualities, and values in line with the True Gentleman. The longevity of the chapter starts during recruitment, and we are consistently recruiting outstanding young men. CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT The chapter has placed great significance on involvement in outside organizations. Our members have become involved in Interfraternity Council, Order of Omega, and College Mentors for Kids. Furthermore, our members are actively involved in philanthropic organizations such as Purdue University Dance Marathon. Brothers spend several hours a week assisting the Food Finders organization to distribute food to the less fortunate. Our brothers have taken it upon themselves to become involved on campus and in the Lafayette community. Indiana Beta is setting the bar for other chapters by becoming leaders of our own Greek community. ALUMNI RELATIONS Without the continued support from everyone, Indiana Beta would be unable to experience the benefits of the renovation firsthand. We are currently searching for an on-campus chapter advisor who would work alongside the chapter to help us reach our goals. Our House Corporation works tirelessly to ensure the success of the chapter and oversee operations of the renovation. We appreciate the continued support by our alumni and hope to see you all at the 125th anniversary this fall. Phi Alpha, Stephen Binstock '19 (847) 508-0186 president@saepurdue.com At College Mentors for Kids, brothers Eric Johnson '21 and Chris Orlich '21 shared their experiences in SAE's philanthropies, and encouraged them to think of ways they can help out their own communities. Nick Murphy '20, Vinnie Albanese '19, Mitch Miler '20, Nathaniel Stearns '20, Hank Hehner '20, and Quinton Stirsman '20 spent a weekend in February at the Greek Christian Conference in Indianapolis.
