Welcome to Theta Omega Sisterhood Inspires Change How Tri Delta Helped Kelly Cannon Boeckman '95 Rejuvenate Her Career hen Kelly Can- non Boeckman '95 first met the women of Tri Delta during recruitment, she felt at home almost im- mediately. "The women were incredibly down to Earth and friendly, without any pretense," she said. "I knew it was a house in which I could be myself, thrive, and make lifelong friends." Kelly's undergraduate ex- perience with Theta Omega taught her about self-acceptance, and the lessons she learned from the women of Tri Delta through adulthood have played a cru- cial role in her life and career. Kelly graduated from KU with a B.S. in news-editorial journalism. She worked for the University Daily Kansan throughout her undergraduate career, including a role as the football reporter her senior year. Al- though Kelly's career later shifted into the tech industry, she notes, "not a day goes by at work that I don't use the writing, editing, and communication skills that I learned in the J-School." Some of her happiest college memories include Rock Chalk Revue; she and her sisters made the show twice with other KU sororities. Ever since graduating, Kelly has had what she describes as a "long and winding" career path. After graduating, she moved to Texas where she worked as a newspaper copy edi- tor for three years. At a subsequent job in Kansas City, Kelly began to realize it was time for a change. "I realized I was unhappy, unfulfilled, and felt I was at a dead-end pro- fessionally." In 2007 she moved to Denver and earned her MBA in marketing and fi- nance, making a total career switch into technology. "My involvement with national Tri Delta gave me the confidence to apply for gradu- ate school and change the trajectory of my career," Kelly said. She currently works as the marketing programs manager for storage part- ners at Amazon Web Ser- vices. For undergraduates and younger alumnae just starting out in the profes- sional world, Kelly advises exploring their options and taking risks while they can. "It's okay not to be 100 per- cent sure what you want to do or settled on a firm ca- reer path. Never be afraid or think it's too late to make a career change!" In many ways, Kelly feels that her alumna experiences have had the strongest impact on her life. She joined the alumnae groups in San Antonio and Fort Worth while living in Texas, which was invaluable in making new friends while moving to a place where she didn't know anybody. She has served in various alumnae roles and leadership po- sitions since then, attending conventions and meeting inspirational Tri Delta women from all over. Most recently, Kelly worked with the Den- ver alumnae chapter. "Tri Delta filled a hole in my career, giving me great opportunities back when I wasn't getting them at work. I am pleased to see Tri Delta strengthen its focus on philanthropy (especially support- ing St. Jude), academics, and helping create strong women." Kelly and her husband, Matthew, live in Arvada, Colorado. They met in Kansas City through work, and Matthew eagerly joined Kelly when she moved for graduate school. They have two children: Ian is in second grade, and Cora is in kindergarten. "Even though they are Colorado natives, we've raised them to be die-hard Jayhawk fans!" Kelly enjoys hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter, and taking in Denver's live music scene. She also loves traveling for fun or for work and recently began taekwondo classes alongside her family. You can recon- nect with Kelly at kelcan21@gmail.com.
