the opening of the chapter house approaching at the close of summer break, we hope to hold an open house for parents and alumni to enjoy the renovations. Throughout the spring semester, we hope to capitalize on all the support we have received from alumni in the past 18 months. With changes hap- pening regarding academics, philan- thropy, community service, and cam- pus involvement, we hope that this semester will continue the trend of improvement we have seen through- out the past few years, and that the ex- pectation of excellence and success in all areas will carry over into the new house for years to come. He attended local schools and graduated from KSU with a B.S. in business administration. Byron also served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to the end of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in 1946. By- ron married Donna Jean Swords on Novem- ber 14, 1953, in Wamego. In 1963, he moved their family to Wamego where he worked as an independent insurance agent, owning the McKowen-Jacobson Agency for 41 years un- til retirement. Byron was always very active in the Wamego community. His memberships included: Catholic Church, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Masonic Lodge. He served as mayor, a school board member, and numer- ous civic and volunteer positions. In 2006, the Chamber of Commerce gave him the distinc- tion as the Wamego Citizen of the Year. But, the membership that most impacted By- ron's journey through life was Sigma Chi. While at K-State, Byron helped pioneer the efforts to bring the Sigma Chi Fraternity to Kansas State University as a charter member. At his gravesite, over 20 Sigma Chi active and alumni brothers honored Bryon with the White Rose Ceremony, led by Brother Tom Roberts '70. In Hoc, Byron. The renovations currently taking place could not have happened without a great outpouring of support from individuals to which the chapter owes an immense debt of gratitude. In early November 2017, our chapter had our an- nual Dad's Day. In spite of rainy weather and a tough loss to TCU, the men and their fathers were in high spirits in each other's company. Later on this spring, our chapter will celebrate Mom's Day with bowling, dinner, and an auction.
