Lakers LOS MOLINOS — The Mercy Warriors varsity basketball team was done in Thursday by two things in its opening round 61-25 loss against Sutter in the Block LM Tournament. — turnovers and a lack of ball movement. Sutter's quick hands in the opening half forced Mercy turnovers, which led to easy transition layups and a 34-7 halftime lead. Coming out of the locker room, Keith Carlson, Mercy's assistant varsity coach, wanted the team to focus on its energy level and protecting the ball. "I think in the first four minutes of the second half, I think we came out pretty good," Carlson said. The Warriors' offense improved in the third quarter, when they dropped 10 points, which included a threepointer from Adil Sued. Mercy's defensive energy also improved, keeping Sutter to 13 points in the period. But the Huskies' balanced offense was too much for the Warriors. Sutter's Seth Landers led all scorers with 17 points, Brandon Stephenson added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Garrett Stevenson had 13 of his own. "First of all, we're a pretty young team," Carlson said.. "We're starting three sophomores, at least today we started three sophomores." Mercy's Tommy Garcia finished with 6 points and and 7 rebounds and Sued finished with 7 points and 4 rebounds.
