Today's FSU Housing Scene C ollege campus living has changed signifi cantly, even within the last 10 to 15 years. The experience is wholly different than what most of our alumni will remember. Residential facilities are the second most important factor in the college decision-making process behind the availability of a student's intended major. This is understandable considering that students spend 70% of their time within their living environment. Two popular residence halls at Florida State are Wildwood and Degraff Hall. Built and rebuilt in 2007, respectively, Wildwood and Degraff are popular with underclassmen. Both halls feature suite-style living, which puts a shared bathroom between two double-occupancy rooms. This trend is consistent with other new construction nationwide. Two-thirds of new residence halls have a four-to-one or lower ratio of students to a bathroom. Walking down the hall with your shower caddy and fl ip fl ops is a thing of the past! Wildwood Hall Much of the living upgrades have been driven by independent apartment complexes around the college campus. We know these are attractive places for upperclassmen looking for even more independence and privacy. The amenities and facilities in these apartments are very attractive and are a threat to keeping our members engaged with the Fraternity. We know the classroom experience is critical, but the development of social skills might be even more important to success in today's business world. We know that the Fraternity provides social interaction that set our members apart from the average college graduate. Our challenge is to provide a living environment that offers both community and privacy. New residence hall under construction across from Delta Zeta on West Jefferson Street.
