By Sarah Haney NWA Democrat-Gazette Having fun, meeting your neighbors and making new friends is what living in the City of Decatur is all about. Whether it is a local festival for all ages, a picnic outing with the family and friends, or physical activity you seek, there is something for everyone. Veterans Park Veterans Park is home to the Annual Decatur Barbeque that takes place the first Saturday in August. is park has a concession building that sits next to some huge barbecue pits. It offers electricity for vendors, it also has a stage for entertainers. Aside from these amenities, it also offers a walking track, playground area, benches, and a smaller soccer field. e disc golf course runs through both Veterans Park and Edmiston Park. To access Veterans Park you will need to head North on Main Street over the viaduct across from Grand Savings Bank. Stay on Main Street/Highway 102 until you get past Austin Avenue. e entry to the park is le off of Main Street/Highway 102. If you are interested in playing disc golf and need to rent some discs, you can rent them from City Hall, or the library. e cost is a refundable $5 deposit. Edmiston Park Edmiston Park is located off of Austin Avenue at the top of Veterans Park. At this park you will find a playground area, soccer field, soball/baseball fields, basketball court, pavilion and concession stand, and the start of disc golf. To get to Edmiston Park you will head north on Main Street over the viaduct, across from Grand Savings Bank. Go down to the first street aer the Decatur Assembly of God Church and turn le on to Austin. Go West on Austin and at the top of the hill to the right is Edmiston Park. McCollum Memorial Picnic Area Looking for a great place that is quiet and relaxing to eat your lunch? How about you and a group of friends gathering for a barbecue? Want to have a family reunion in the park? McCollum Memorial Picnic Area has some picnic tables, and grills set up under some shade trees that are perfect for a day in the park. McCollum Memorial Picnic Area is just in between Edmiston Park and Veterans Park. To access this area, head north on Main Street over the viaduct across from Grand Savings bank. Turn le onto Austin Avenue, just past the Decatur Assembly of God Church. Go west on Austin Avenue until you get to the top of the hill, then turn right into Edmiston Park. Drive towards the concession stand, as you get close to the stand you will see the parking lot for this picnic area. Old City Park At Old City Park you will find a playground area, swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, horseshoe pits, bandstand, and a gazebo. To get to Old City Park, no matter which direction you are coming from, at the four-stop you will want to enter onto Roller Avenue/Falling Springs Road that takes you west of town and Decatur's amenities, attractions Decatur H Kyle LaGrand throws toward the goal on hole 5 at the disc golf course at Veterans Park.
