Kappa Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau Cornell University P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested I n September 2007, the Kappa Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau celebrated its 100th anniversary at a grand dinner in New York City. We were de- lighted to honor our first induction class into our Chapter Hall of Fame: Robert Tischman '37, Albert Aschaffenburg '41, Lenny Harlan '58, Robert Rosenberg '59, Dick Schwartz '60, Jules Kroll '63, Tom Jones '69, Steve Edelman '75, Jerry Ippolito '79, and Paul Breitenbach '92. All of these Kappa men made great contri- butions to Cornell and to our global community. But among them, Dick Schwartz and Jerry Ip- polito really stand out for their contribution to the chapter itself. It was those brothers, along with Skip Adler '60, who kept the institution of Zeta Beta Tau alive at Cornell while the under- graduate chapter was closed. The largest group of attendees at the event were from the classes of '89-'92. These were the brothers who refounded Kappa Chapter in 1989 and oversaw another great era of glory. Broth- ers in these years were proudly atop many clubs, organizations, and societies at Cornell and they would go on to great heights in business, med- icine, academia, and society as a whole. Their perseverance in restarting the chapter and re- turning to Edgecliff would ensure that finances were stabilized, a long-term strategy was devel- oped, and Kappa would continue to thrive into its 100th year and beyond. On November 3, 2017, almost on the eve of our 110th anniversary, the undergraduate brothers at Cornell received charter approval from Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. For the third time since 1907, Kappa would take its place on the Cornell campus and in the Zeta Beta Tau international community. A new group of refounding fathers picked up the mantle and prepared to lead Zeta Beta Tau at Cornell. We already know that this group, like all who came before it, will suffer great challenges. We also know that one way or another, the Kappa Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau will survive at Cornell. It will survive because our great alumni are prepared to live the spirit of our ritual and serve this great fraternity to de- velop the ideals of intellectual awareness, social responsibility, integrity, and brotherly love. Dick Schwartz '60 shared, "You need to take care of the institutions you care about because you never know if someone else will be there to do it." Zeta Beta Tau at Cornell and our home at Edgecliff will survive because there will always be alumni who care about the institution and will be there to support it. Can't Get Enough Edgecliff News?
