The Lion & The Ladybug 2 Forever Phi Mu We Remember Shellye Stanley McCarty '65 W ith great sadness, we announce that one of our dear sisters, past Foundation President Shellye Stanley McCarty '65, has passed on to Chapter Eternal. For decades, Shellye was a fierce advocate for Phi Mu, sharing her passion for strong Chapter development and providing opportunities for women to thrive in our sisterhood. She had a special place in her heart for the Phi Mu Chapter at the University of Mississippi, and shared an extraordinary bond with the Alpha Delta women. There was nothing that could make Shellye smile more than being on the campus at Ole Miss, surrounded by her Alpha Delta sisters. "For all who knew her, Shellye was a force to be reckoned with. Her desire to be the very best in all aspects of sorority life was truly contagious," said Phi Mu Foundation President Kris Shetler Bridges, Delta Nu '84. "She had a knack for empowering women and inspiring them to accept nothing less than the very best for themselves and their Chapter." "Shellye made a resounding impact on our sisterhood that will continue to be felt for generations," said Phi Mu National President Beth Maxson Monnin, Rho '80. "The legacy she left behind to support the future of Phi Mu—with her scholarship fund and significant leadership role in supporting the success of the campaign for Phi Mu—will live on forever in the women who benefit from her generosity." The 2018 Miss Mississippi pageant is June 20-23. The contest began in 1934 and has been held in Vicksburg, Miss., since 1958. While we hosted many events over of the semester that emphasized our vibrant sisterhood, impressive philanthropy efforts, and academic endeavors, one of the most exciting moments of the fall was when we welcomed home 116 new Phis thanks to our incredible recruitment team. In addition to a memorable recruitment, the women of Alpha Delta raised our Chapter's GPA from a 3.21 to a 3.25, and was ranked fifth among all Greek chapters on campus. We are so proud of the hardworking sisters that are passionate about exceeding academic expectations. Last fall, we hosted our annual Cheesin' for Children event at the Chapter House where we served cheesy snacks to raise over $8,500 for our wonderful philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Philanthropy Chairman Caitlyn Connell '14 also planned a new addition called Milkshakes for Miracles, which raised $5,000 for Le Bonheur and $2,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief. The event took place at the Phi Mu Chapter House where we invited students, faculty, and alumnae to visit and enjoy a sweet treat. We are excited to host this new event, along with Cheesin' for Children, in coming years. Our new philanthropy chairman, Malia Willis '16, is already hard at work in making our annual spring event, Bonnamu, bigger and better than ever. This year's Bonnamu will take place in April in accordance with our parent's weekend and alumnae celebration brunch. We are excited to welcome new and familiar faces alike in visiting our Chapter, so stay tuned for more information. Alpha Delta is forever thankful for the love and support shown by our sisters, alumnae, and House Corporation. We look forward to another eventful and successful spring semester!
