3 CORNELL UNIVERSITY H i, sisters! My name is Lisa Condoluci '19, and I am president of the Delta Chapter of ΑΦ. I'm from Long Island, New York, a junior at Cornell, and majoring in biological engineering with a minor in Spanish. I am so excited to see how our chapter progresses this year! DELTA RAISES MORE THAN $120,000 FOR ΑΦ FOUNDATION Last semester, we shifted our priorities toward our philanthropy, making sure students on Cornell's campus realize how committed the women of Delta Chapter are to making a difference. We hosted Ivy Man, a talent show featuring members from other Greek organizations and sports teams. Our chapter is thrilled to have raised over $120,000 in the past three years for the ΑΦ Foundation! We also hosted our third Heart Health Week last fall, where we tabled on Ho Plaza to raise awareness for heart health. Our trail mix bar brought people out for healthy treats and to learn the importance of taking care of our hearts. RECRUITMENT BRINGS 44 NEW MEMBERS Spring recruitment brought 44 women into the newest Delta class, including six legacies, seven sophomores, and 37 freshmen. This year, we improved our house tour round tremendously by showcasing more rooms via individual house tours. We heard that the potential Delta Hard at Work Recruiting, Bonding, and Giving Back Chapter Raises over $120,000 in Three Years for Philanthropy THE BREAKDOWN OF RECRUITMENT AT CORNELL Recruitment has changed a LOT in the last few years! In 2017, Cornell moved away from showcasing skits during recruitment in alignment with National Panhellenic Council recommendations. Skits were replaced by philanthropy presentations and activities to better showcase each chapter's values and commitment to their philanthropy. In the case of ΑΦ, emphasis was placed on the Alpha Phi Foundation and women's heart health. Round 1: Open House - Potential New Members (PNMs) visit each of Cornell's 13 sororities during this first round of recruitment, which occurs over two days. Round 2: Chapter Experience House Tours - PNMs tour the chapter facilities of up to nine chapters, getting a sense of what it could be like to be a sister and live in the house. This year, ΑΦ gave PNMs a one-on-one house tour! Round 3: Philanthropy and Values - Visiting up to six sororities during this round, PNMs learn about a chapter's (inter)national philanthropy and campus charitable involvement. At ΑΦ, sisters showed a chapter-produced video that showcased individual member volunteerism and philanthropy, as well as personal experiences near and dear to their own hearts. The presentation culminated with chapter members and PNMs holding silver and red hearts, with the red hearts signifying the one-in-three women affected by heart disease. Round 4: Preference - The event that has probably changed the least in the last decade or two, Preference is the time when a chapter shares part of its tradition—the Preference ceremony! In 2018, PNMs attended Preference events at two chapters, rather than three as in the past. Bid Night: PNMs attend the bid night celebration of the chapter with which they matched! The newest Alpha Phis celebrated at a rock and roll- themed bid night complete with a performance by Last Call a capella group, a photo booth where they could rock their new letters, and snacks! New members will participate in a six- week new member period, concluding with initiation, where they will have the opportunity to bond with their own class and current sisters, and familiarize themselves with the history and ideals of Alpha Phi.
