THETA IOTA CHAPTER • KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY Spring 2018 Crescent The Golden ince the early 1970s, Tri Delta's chosen philanthropy has been children's cancer charities. This philanthropic cause encom- passes a wide array of charitable organi- zations and represents the collective effort of Tri Delta's members and chapters across the United States and Canada who continue to donate goods, volunteer time, and host fundraisers for the research and treatment of children with cancer. In 1999, Tri Delta formed a national philanthropic partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This partnership has allowed members and chapters to support St. Jude's mission of finding cures and saving children. Tri Delta has raised more than $45 million for the hospital, and in July 2014 we announced our current fundraising commitment of $60 million in 10 years — the single largest fun- draising commitment in St. Jude's history. Haley Firkins '15, Theta Iota's St. Jude philan- thropy chairman last year, fully embraced a pas- sion for the hospital the fall of her sophomore year, when she learned that a boy from her hometown died from cancer. pring greetings, Theta Iota alumnae! The chapter and House Corporation have had a smooth, productive year and are looking forward to all of the usual cam- pus and house spring activities. House Corporation members are making plans for summer projects and workdays. Our application for the National Housing Endowment Fund grant has been sub- mitted and, if granted, will help fund the replacement of more air conditioning units in the bedrooms of the east wing and several in the common areas of the house. The big news topic within the KSU Greek community is transition. Late last spring, the university announced that the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life would be clos- ing. The Center for Student Involvement was established, which resulted in the Panhellenic and Interfraternity councils being listed among 300 other student organizations classified as independent, and to receive minimum university sup- port going forward. Two Kansas State Greek alumni, Mary Vanier, Gamma Phi Beta '89 and Tim Lindemuth, Pi Kappa Phi '77, quickly stepped forward as acting PHC and IFC advisers. Their work has led to the forma- tion of a search committee composed of alumni and student leaders to begin the pro- cess of hiring a director for the newly orga- nized Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Since the separation from the university, both councils have become incorporated as not-for-profit entities. A dues increase from each Greek chapter at KSU will most likely be required to allow for staffing and main- taining offices, which have been leased in the K-State Union. As the new organization continues to advance, many alumni volun- teers are generously donating their time and expertise to provide support for the K-State chapters. More information regarding this transition will follow in future newsletters. What can you, as a Kansas State Greek alumna, do to help the progress of the new organization? Continue to promote the col- lege Greek experience at one of the finest universities in the nation! By encouraging pre-college students to seriously consider recruitment and membership, you will help to maintain a strong Greek presence at Kansas State as well as develop the long- lasting relationships that are vital to all Greek chapters. You may refer any inter- ested student, parent, or alumnus to www. wildcatorgs.com/fraternities-sororities for information regarding KSU Greek mem- bership. In the meantime, please do keep in mind your Theta Iota Chapter. It is only with your collective help that we are able to maintain our Chapter House as one of the most beautiful in Manhattan. Thank you for your consideration of Theta Iota House Corporation when making contributions; your generosity is appreciated.
