Greeting from Stallone Solution on page 2 CoverStory By Jay Bobbin © Zap2it For all the series Shon- da Rhimes has made, only one has been a direct spinoff of the one that established her ex- ecutive-producing cred, "Grey's Anatomy." Until now. First, "Private Practice" transferred characters from the very-long-running medical drama, and now comes "Station 19." Getting its ABC debut Thursday, March 22, the saga of Seattle firefighters makes Jason George's Ben War- ren its primary link to the parent show — though "Rosewood" alum Jaina Lee Ortiz appeared on "Grey's" earlier this month in her new role as Ben's firehouse colleague Andy Herrera. Andy pressures herself to follow in the footsteps of her father, the station's captain (Miguel Sandoval), while others on the team face their own challenges. Grey Damon ("Aquari- us"), Danielle Savre ("Too Close to Home"), Barrett Doss, Alberto Frezza, Jay Hayden (Rhimes' "The Catch") and Okieriete Onaodowan also are in the ensemble cast ... with Ellen Pompeo appearing in the premiere as (of course) Dr. Meredith Grey. "Station 19" showrunner Stacy McKee, who also hails from the "Grey's Anatomy" team, says that "If you've followed Ben Warren as a character, he's changed careers a couple of times, and he always goes after the thing that he thinks is going to satisfy him the most in the moment. And he's nev- er satisfied if he's stuck somewhere that isn't fulfill- ing him." Musing that he's "going to play Ben Warren for the rest of my career," actor George admits he had mixed feelings about mov- ing on. "I was just like Ben was," he reflects. "I per- sonally was caught more emotional than I expected about leaving the 'Grey's' family. I'm saying goodbye to people. I'm giving hugs. Then, all of a sudden, I realize I'll probably be back in about two months (in a crossover stint). So, I'm not leaving home entirely." Though Rhimes — who recently signed a deal to make projects for Netflix — has maintained she isn't trying to emulate pro- ducer Dick Wolf and his "Chicago" empire of NBC dramas, a certain synergy will exist between her Seat- tle-set shows while "Station 19" keeps its own style. Jason George stars in the "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff "Station 19," premiering Thursday on ABC. 'Station 19' opens for firefighters with debut of 'Grey's Anatomy' spinoff
