Lincoln: A growing and vibrant community By Sarah Haney Lincoln is a city in Washington County and is part of the Northwest Arkansas metro area. Lincoln was originally called "Georgetown," and under this name a post office was established in 1884. e present name of Lincoln was adopted in 1885. e city of Lincoln was incorporated in 1907. Education Lincoln Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, Lincoln High School, and Lincoln Academic Center of Excellence make up the Lincoln School District. Lincoln recently completed a large, beautiful, state-of-the-art, multimillion-dollar high school. e school mascot is the Wolf. e school colors are maroon and white. e middle school houses the Lincoln Youth Adventure Club. is aer-school enrichment program focuses on exposing children to outdoor activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, hiking, and disc golf. e middle school also has an awarding winning chess club. Arkansas Apple Festival Lincoln is home to the Annual Arkansas Apple Festival, held every year the first weekend of October. Founded in 1975, it has attracted visitors to the area who come to see the arts and cras of the Ozarks. Lincoln still hosts a successful Apple Festival that welcomes visitors and vendors from all over the nation, serving free apple slices and a swig of Apple Cider to sightseers. "Lincoln has a small town atmosphere, and friendly people are a way of life that you can enjoy.
