March 7, 2018 www.DesertMessenger.com 23 Farewell to Conra Taxpayer Responsibilities This week we would like to talk about taxpayer responsibilities with regard to mailing addresses. The most common problem in our offi ce is incorrect mailing addresses. We encourage taxpayers to notify our offi ce if you have moved and have a different mailing address, which can prevent problems in the future. Our records are for assessing purpose only. Therefore, we need the most up-to-date information on your ac- count. Having the correct mailing information will ensure your Notice of Value and Tax Bill Statement are sent to the correct address. Many winter visitors would like our offi ce to maintain their winter and summer addresses; however, our system only allows one address per taxpayer. Therefore, it is im- port to have the most reliable/per- manent address. Mailings are sent out in February for Notice of Values and in September for Tax Bill State- ments. If you did not receive your statement please notify the Asses- sor's offi ce for a copy of your Notice of Value and contact the Treasurer's offi ce for your Tax Bill Statement. We recently mailed out Notice of Values for real property in early Feb- ruary and have received hundreds of these back. Reasons include owner unknown, address unknown, no forwarding order, forwarding order expired, etc. We also received hun- dreds of new address corrections from the Post Offi ce. If you are a winter visitor and have an out-of- state address forwarding to a local address, the computer system at the Post Offi ce may be rejecting your mail and/or your forwarding order. We will be mailing Notice of Val- ues for personal property/mobile homes in June. As always, if you have any ques- tions please don't hesitate to con- tact our offi ce at your convenience; we are here for you, the taxpayer. She's been the backbone of the jams at Quartzsite's Holiday Palms and Brenda's Desert Gold. She also arranged and conducted the highly successful Band Scrambles. Her last Holiday Palms jam will be March 28th and the last Desert Gold jam will be March 31. Conra came to Quartzsite in 2001. In 2004 she started helping the jam masters. Dale Blevens, at Desert Gold RV Park in Brenda asked her, "You want to sing?" She said, "No, No, Never!" Now she sings and says she gets to have fun as well as do all the work! Her dad played banjo in a bluegrass band and when she was a baby her mother would put her basket on the stage so mother could dance. Conra says, "Maybe that's how I learned all those good old songs." Her dad tried to teach her to play the banjo, but as a kid all she wanted to do was dance and sing. She fi nally tried to learn on her dad's old banjo but in later years arthritis bothered her. So she went to the Dobro because its uses a slide and she now plays it at all the jams. In 2007 she married Todd Marsh; he had never really been around music but one of the musicians asked him if wanted to learn to run the sound board. Todd says, "He asked me because I was the only one not wearing hearing aids." Conra said her husband, "is the best sound man around." He also helps the musicians with their gear and thanks them all afterwards. Todd has health issues and they will leave the area to be closer to family. Music lovers in Quartzsite and Brenda will dearly miss Conra and Todd and we wish them the best as they take their talents elsewhere.
