BETA TIDINGS A PUBLICATION OF BETA SIGMA PSI AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2018 InsIde: BETA TIDINGS HALL OF FAME 2 THANK YOU, GENEROUS BROTHERS 2 BETA CHAPTER CONTINUES ACADEMIC SUCCESS 3 BETA CHAPTER ATTENDS MEF Recommendations for Recruitment Encouraged MEMBER EDUCATION FORUM The Member Education Forum was held in Chicago on January 13. In the alumni chapter workshop, we compared notes and discussed how to best thrive in an environment that is becoming increasingly challenging for fraternities. Beta Chapter has one of the more mature housing models and was able to provide some advice in that regard. Some chapters have annual alumni events other than Homecoming that see high rates of alumni engagement, and so could be a good opportunity for us. Nothing has been decided yet, so if you have any suggestions, please contact me at jeffrey.andres. williams@gmail.com or (765) 238-2161. There were a couple noteworthy outcomes of the National Council Meeting. First, we adopted a Good Samaritan Policy, which assures members that they will not face reprisal from the Fraternity should they seek emergency services in an alcohol or drug-related incident. Second is that Chi Chapter has been reinstated as a colony at Ohio State University. THRIVENT CHOICE We are excited to share that we have received $1,275 from Thrivent members who chose to donate their Thrivent Choice funds to the Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Psi. Thank you! If you are a Thrivent member, please remember that Choice Dollars for 2017 will expire on March 31. RECRUITMENT Final interviews for the Christian Leadership Award scholarship was held on Saturday, March 3 at the Chapter House. The winner will be announced in April. This scholarship has become a good outreach and recruitment tool for us, but it shouldn't be our only means of reaching high school seniors. This year, we expect nearly half of the active members to graduate, so it is imperative that we have a strong recruitment. If you know any Christian gentlemen who plan to attend Purdue University next year, please get in touch with Micah Reynolds '15 at reynol68@purdue.edu. Yours in Christ, Jeffrey Williams '09 House Corporation Secretary jeffrey.andres.williams@gmail.com Alumni attended the Member Education Forum on January 13 in Chicago. "T he Beta Sigma Psi Chapter at Purdue has been a huge blessing to University Lutheran Church. Whenever I have needed any help in the past three and a half years, they were always quick to give me a group of guys to accomplish whatever needed to be done. From simple things like getting coffee, to big things like planning a Christmas party, they are there every step of the way. They have been a blessing indeed. "This past summer I called on the men for the largest favor yet. University Lutheran was moving locations and it became apparent that our new sanctuary would not be ready for the opening service. I discussed our need for a place to worship with some of the men at the house and they immediately offered their house for worship! The first two weeks before classes began we met for worship in the living room. And the next four weeks after that, they set up a tent on their front CHAPTER MEMBERS FILLED PEWS OF NEW SANCTUARY AT UNIVERSITY LUTHERAN CHURCH Pastor Herman Thankful for Beta Sigma Psi's Help Members gathered in the new church sanctuary at University Luterhan Church.
