Her mother is a Zeta Tau Alpha, and her hometown friends are Delta Gammas. After joining, Christy didn't realize the lifelong impact Delta Gamma would have on her. She attended law school at Arkansas and she was able to keep in touch with her closest friends, her Alpha Omega sisters. "Alpha Omega was an important part of my life, particularly my younger life, and my sisters were family," Christy says. With the excitement and growing numbers for Greek life at the University of Arkansas, the chapter house for Alpha Omega is coming at a perfect time. Christy hopes a new chapter house can attract the best and brightest of new students and provide a home for growth as well as cultivating strong alumnae relations. "I hope it provides a structure around which to build a terrific chapter leading to many friendships and happy memories," Christy says. Even though Christy lives in Mississippi, she is still able to keep in touch with her Alpha Omega sisters. "Dell Shay Kingan '72 has been wonderful about staying in touch and organizing reunions," Christy says. It just goes to show that the sisterhood bonds last long after you leave the doors of Alpha Omega. "It's the friendships developed in the midst of crisis that make all the memories meaningful." Christy served as chapter president and acknowledges that this experience has stuck with her to this day. "I learned the importance of not only teamwork, encouragement and support of others, but also decision making. The ability to make decisions and take risks necessarily builds both confidence and resilience," Christy says. "All have been of utmost importance in the practice of law." Christy has continued to use the life lessons from Delta Gamma in her professional and personal life. "I have benefitted immensely from my experiences and this is my way of giving back." She recently retired from her law practice and enjoys cooking and traveling. Christy lives in Madison, Miss., and can be reached at christy.jones@ butlersnow.com. Alpha Omega Continues to Thrive on Campus Members Look Forward to New Chapter House First Founders Day Celebration Since rechartering in fall 2016, Alpha Omega has been on the fast track to continued success. In spring 2017, we had our first Founders Day celebration that was held at the Hilton Garden Inn and Suites. We paired this event with alumnae and sisters from the Eta Omicron chapter from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Philanthropic Involvement Our first Anchor Splash was held at the HPER gym at the University of Arkansas with other Greek men and women competing in exciting swimming events. We had more than 400 people in attendance and raised $7,500 for our foundation and $10,500 that went to the Lion's Club and the Burlsworth Foundation. 140 New Members In the fall, we successfully completed our first primary recruitment, with the Janelle Hembree Alumni House being our temporary home for those few weeks. On Bid Day, we gave out a total of 140 bids at the Greek Theater and took our celebration to the old Delta Gamma House (now known as the University House) and had a blast reminiscing on the past and indulging in the present! Academic Excellence Alpha Omega went through its first official elections process, ending with a remarkable junior Chapter Management Team filled with women who are excited and ready to lead the chapter. Alpha Omega has also furthered our goal for academic excellence, receiving an overall GPA of 3.328, with 52 women receiving Lamps of Knowledge for achieving a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester. Soon we will be calling 625 W. Maple St. home. Our chapter house plans are well underway and our house corporation board is working tirelessly to create a beautiful house. Please save the date for our Founders Day and groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, April 21. We would love to see you all there! We thank all of the alumnae who have contributed to our prosperity; your generosity and selflessness has been tremendous and will impact generations to come! In the bonds, Taylor Johnson '17 Chapter President arkansasdgpresident@gmail.com Congratulations to our beautiful future nurses for getting their white coats! We're so proud of our sisters.
