AlwAys Anchored Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Gamma • University of Arkansas • Spring 2018 T he spring semester started off quickly for Alpha Omega. The women have returned from the holidays, have held spring recruitment, and have planned a lot of great activities for the chapter. As our women continue their success, so does our campaign, Anchored in Tradition, Building Our Future. Building plans are now complete and we are working with several lenders to secure the construction loan. Several banks are interested which will work in our favor. With that, we thrilled to announce that our groundbreaking and Founders Day celebration are set for Saturday, April 21—turn to page 4 for more details. If you have been thinking, "I'll believe it when I see it," it's now time to believe and it's now time to be part of the journey! So far, 217 alumnae, friends and parents of collegians have contributed $1,882,808 to Anchored in Tradition, Building Our Future. Starting the construction phase is exciting; however, we still have $117,192 left to raise toward (and hopefully exceed!) our $2 million goal. If you have not already helped out, the time to give is now. The project is a reality, and we need the support of every sister to achieve success. We have come so far and so many have worked so hard to get to this point. The project is happening and we could not be more excited. Every dollar contributed ensures that we bring the highest quality both inside and out to our chapter's new home. I hope you will consider your own role in these efforts and that you will use the enclosed form to make your gift to Delta Gamma. Any amount will help, and pledges can be spread out until December 2021. Remember your oath. Let's be champions for our collegians. Thank you for all your help along the way. It's been a wonderful journey with more excitement to come. We hope to see you at our groundbreaking and Founders Day celebration! It will be one for the books. But that wasn't the sole reason she chose the chapter. "I put Delta Gamma first on my preference card because of the strong connections I had made throughout the week. It truly was all about the authenticity and character of the women I met during recruitment week." As an Alpha Omega, Ella's favorite times were spent in the chapter house with her sisters: getting ready for parties, borrowing clothes and candlelight ceremonies. "I think some of my best memories center around simply hanging out in the evenings with friends who accept you as you are, sharing your dreams, frustrations, heartbreaks and successes, and a whole lot of laughing," Ella says. The Anchored in Tradition, Building Our Future campaign and the excitement of a new chapter house evokes strong memories for Ella. "My hope is that the chapter house will create a place where the love and friendship I experienced can be repeated for generations to come." While Ella hasn't been as involved as she'd like with Alpha Omega physically, she feels that is why she wants to invest and give back to the chapter today. "Distance and life's priorities have separated me from the chapter, but my love for the women of my chapter, and specifically my pledge class, has stayed with me. I am forever blessed by the influence of these women on my life," Ella says. She shares a strong and important reminder about reconnecting with fellow DG sisters. "During your time at Alpha Omega, you made a difference to someone and a sister made a difference in your life." She hopes that with the help of the campaign, finances can be taken off the table for the chapter and the focus can remain on what's important: friendship and sisterhood. Ella lives in Winston Salem, N.C. with her husband, Jason, and their two high school daughters, Lucy and Katie Ruth. When Ella is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading and traveling. She can be reached at ellamlong@yahoo.com.
