Q : I've been enjoying the remake of "Dynas- ty." In all likelihood, the network is waiting to see if the arrival of Nicollette Sher- idan as Alexis will jump-start things for the show, much as Joan Collins' entrance in the role did for the original version. Also, "Dynasty" has been valuable for The CW in adding some diversity to its schedule. That's not only true in the makeup of its cast, but also in its being a different sort of show that — along with "Jane the Virgin" and "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" — is different from the superhe- ro-driven and supernatural fare that largely has defined the network. Q : I've heard that "The Orville" has been re- newed for a second season. Is that true? — Gary Doug- las, Buffalo, N.Y. A : It is. It got that nod from Fox pretty early, less than two months after its premiere, and that may have been for a variety of reasons. It had a sizable audience for its pre- miere (counting all platforms, including DVR viewing), but also, series mentor Seth Mac- Farlane is a very busy guy ... including for Fox alone, since the long-running "Family Guy" also is in his creative domain. One of the thoughts likely was that the sooner he could get going on devising a Sea- son 2 of "The Orville," the better for all concerned. With the Disney-Fox deal moving forward, the show's future be- yond that remains to be seen — but at least for the time be- ing, it will have a sophomore round.
