university Letter of Support Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity Bloomington, IN Dear Brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon: Those of us in the Indiana University family appreciate the symbol of SAE – the phoenix and the pos- itive image of rising from the ashes. The progress that has been made over the last several years of re-invigorating the Indiana Gamma chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Indiana University is truly note- worthy and confirms the tradition of the phoenix. Now, in 2011, you have determined that the existing Brothers in the Bonds deserve to have a new fra- ternity house to finish the rebirth of SAE at IU. We all know how critical that is to symbolize the strength and character of the chapter. Maintaining a fraternity house is expensive and we support and commend you on your efforts to pro- vide a facility for the SAE brothers at IU. Balancing student needs of privacy, study space, computer labs, recreation space, food service, etc. is a challenging proposition. Today's students demand a better living facility, and today's apartment complexes and University housing facilities continue to re- make student housing for the 21st century. Fraternities must renovate and adapt to stay competitive in the local housing market. The educational facilities proposed in your new chapter house will be great enhancements to the living/learning environment within the house. Indiana University supports fraternity and sorority life, as it does all student involvement in leadership, community service, and other student organizations. Success or failure for fraternities rests squarely on the shoulders of the undergraduate brothers to recruit new members of character, and on the alumni to provide a solid foundation. SAE has developed the strategy to succeed and this chapter house is the culmination of the resurgence of SAE on Bloomington's campus. You have a long and treasured history of leadership and impact upon IU-Bloomington's campus. Since the founding of Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Indiana Gamma chapter, SAE alumni have been providing support to IU and your chapter in noteworthy amounts. We applaud your efforts to enhance the living/learning environment for your chapter members! We stand ready to assist in any way that we can. Good luck in your continuing rebirth. Sincerely, Harold "Pete" Goldsmith Dean of Students
