OZARK LIVING • MARCH 2018 • 25 GUEST COLUMNIST Living Jessica Watson Jessica is a wife of nearly 15 years, mother of six, interior designer, singer and songwriter. She currently works with BMC Design Center and Selah Design Studios to help clients and builders with interior selections. She continues to take passion and creativity to new heights while looking for ways to integrate and cultivate culture and creativity throughout her community. She believes in helping others and that everything is possible if you believe in the Creator who gave the gi of creating. In your home, every tangible thing began as an idea in the mind of its creator. As a designer, I get the privilege of helping frame the origin of an idea for clients and watch it manifest in their home or offi ce. In other words, what starts in your mind can be held in your hand and ultimately seen with the natural eye. An empty and bland space can be transformed into a symphonic oasis or comfortable and inspiring retreat. No matter what, I love to be a part of the vision setting, creation and implementation of the vision that clients carry. Your space gives you the opportunity to bring elements, textures, art, and colors together in a room to create a backdrop that aligns to your style. is is how you express value and joy in bringing beautiful things together coupled with a knowledge of the origin of each unique piece. Placement of your art is important in maintaining the balance and harmony in a room. Bookcases are for more than books! It's a great place to display works of art and products that create focal points for conversation. A coff ee table is the center of this conversation. I encourage changing out items you display to bring a new backdrop to your living room! Magazines and online articles are a great way to gather ideas on how to place your décor around the room. Look at a fi nished room and see the balance in the size and placement of each work of art from walls to fl oor. Choose a focal point or two in a room and arrange the seating in a way that incorporates the view of art and items. Designers get to help clients become connoisseurs of art, fabrics, and furnishings. We have the privilege of curating and organizing distinct pieces from global cultures into a unique artistic expression that blends origins and generations in a home or offi ce space.
