@OSUBetaThetaPi Beta Theta Pi - Oklahoma State University NEWS Big Red Island Beta Theta Pi Building Corporation P.O. Box 700508 Tulsa, OK 74170-0508 Address Service Requested Strengthening the Bonds Sean Riley '96 Shares Why He Supports Gamma Lambda B ack in the fall of 1992, our pledge class headed up to Lawrence, Kan., for our pledge sneak. It was one of my favor- ite memories as we had the unique and unex- pected opportunity to spend some time with the seniors. Little did I know, this would be a frequented spot with my pledge brothers in years to come. This was one of countless experiences that provided a true brotherhood and bond with my pledge brothers. From the Barn Dance to the Turkey Pull and ultimate- ly our initiation ceremony, the bond amongst us grew stronger. We were learning principles that would shape many of our futures. Soon after initiation, I realized I was part of a very special brotherhood—brotherhood that lives with me to this day. This bond continues today and is stronger than ever. Every other year, our pledge class makes that pilgrimage north to the University of Kan- sas to reminisce of our glory days at 1207. Our patient wives humor us as we recount and try to sadly relive the many stories of years past. The highlight of the weekend is watching our Beta skit. Of course, the conspirators Michael Coonce '96 and Ryan Darden '96 enjoy put- ting on the show as they lovingly poke fun at us. I hold these men close to my heart. I have laughed, shared and cried with many of them. These men have shaped me. They have al- lowed me to be a part of something so much bigger than myself. I'm proud to call them my "brothers." Like many of you, the Beta house has not only given us countless memories but more impor- tantly provided us with lessons that benefit us to this very day. Many of these principles are applied in my daily life. The leadership skills I developed as a Beta have allowed me to op- erate a successful business for more than 17 years. From my business to my family, the Beta experience has made me a better man. The Beta house has given me so much. I consider myself blessed to be a Beta. Many men came before us that afforded me the opportunity to become a Beta. Whether it came in the form of a monetary donation or a contribution of their time, it provided op- portunities that others would benefit from and enjoy. This is why I gave to the campaign. I want other young men to have the fortune to experience all the Big Red Island has to offer and become part of that very special brother- hood and the principles that many of them will benefit from for years to come. I thank God I'm a Beta! Yours in _kai_, Sean Riley '96 Follow Us Online
