F or the 2017 fall semester, the Gamma Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon took on an ex- panded mission. Our objective is to increase our philanthropic efforts not only within our frater- nity, but the entirety of the campus. Our first initiative was a local food drive aiding both the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank and the Macdonough Elementary School. As a result, we collected almost 400 pounds of non-perishable foods for hundreds of individuals and families in need. is was an amazing accomplishment for our first philanthropy event of the year. We built off that success during Homecoming weekend. Besides the contributions of our foot- ball-playing brothers who helped lead the Cardi- nals to a resounding win over Williams, we cre- ated, customized, and sold Homecoming shirts to friends, family, classmates, alumni, and faculty, as well as Middletown residents. With the sale of close to 350 shirts, we realized a profit of almost $1,000 that was given to the Macdonough School. To add some fun into the mix, we also organized a flag football game for the students of the school during halime of the Homecoming game in front of a crowd of close to 3,000 fans. e kids loved it! We set out to increase our presence and impact not only on campus, but also in Middletown. We are pleased with our start but realize there is much more we can do. We will continue to strengthen our relationships with St. Vincent de Paul and the Macdonough Elementary School in the upcoming semesters.
