The Deke Newsletter GAMMA PHI CHAPTER AT WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY | WINTER 2018 B rothers, we are happy to report that Gamma Phi made considerable progress in 2017. Some of the highlights: n e chapter is healthy and thriving, continuing to attract men of high character and achievement. Whenever we interact with these undergraduate brothers (currently 35 members with expectations of a strong spring recruitment), we are confident about the future of the chapter. n We celebrated 150 years of DKE's continuous presence on the Wesleyan campus with a sesquicentennial gala that attracted over 100 alumni and 25 undergraduates. It was a powerful reminder that the bonds of brotherhood are never broken. n On December 4 following our June lawsuit win, the court upheld the trial verdict and ordered Wesleyan to pay $386,000 in damages and reimburse legal fees. Moreover, the Judge ordered Wesleyan to include Gamma Phi in program housing status beginning this fall. While Wesleyan has since filed an appeal, we grow more confident with each win that the undergraduate brothers will return to the Old Stone House soon. The Sesquicentennial Campaign is brings us to the main purpose of this newsletter. We are honored to announce e Sesquicentennial Campaign: Securing the Future of Gamma Phi. We will implement the plan, "e Cohabitation of 276 High Street," that we submitted to the administration in July 2015 to restore and modernize the house for future generations. is plan includes the necessary renovations to guarantee a safe and robust residential living environment for the undergraduates, as well as an endowment to ensure the financial independence of the Old Stone House in perpetuity. e campaign is already off to a strong start. Initial commitments from dedicated alumni brothers surpass $1.7 million. is early support exemplifies the lifelong importance of our experience as DKEs and adds to the reasons we believe that, with your help, we can reach our goal of $4,000,000. Soon, you will receive a brochure detailing the fundraising goals and where the money will be spent.
